    Default MZ21 7MGTE Tuning

    i got a mz21 with a 7mgte engine in it..

but it is running so slow.. its like slower than a mitsubishi sigma.. theres nothing wrong with it as far as i know.. im just hoping it needs a tune now cause ever since i took it to CMI Toyota and spent over a grand on shit there.. they must of put it out of tune or even tuned it as a bloody corolla :| .. after seeing that dudes dyno pushing 162rkw i should easily be pulling that aswell.. so im just wondering if getting it dyno tuned would be beneficial and how much would i be looking at.

oh yeah i think i have a stock ECU so what the hell can i do to fix it??

im fairly sure its way outta tune even all my mates do that own sil80's.. r33's etc say its definatly out of tune.

sparkplugs.. how do i go about having a look at them..? where abouts are they?

    thanks guys

mz21s are fat and by no means fast especially if they are auto. You cant "tune" them with a stock ecu, thats a sealed factory unit from toyota.
Check to see if the car is outputting any error codes (look up in the tsrm) if its not putting out any codes do the following to make it a "bit" quicker, but please remember these things weight about 1580kg. Also check timing as it may be off with your timing light.

Do the normal plugs, leads, advance ignition timing. A fuel computer like an SAFC helps alot when dyno tuned as the factory computer runs VERY VERY RICH.
Also you can put a boost controller on it, but be careful as if it has/hasnt done a head gasket, upping the boost will cause a failure.

You can tune a little but not much by adjusting the timing.
+1 More boost will bite you unless you get a metal head gasket first, and that isn't cheap - I blew a near new factory HG that way.

With a metal HG you can run the factory computer up to ~10psi with the stock AFM. More if you change to a 1UZ AFM (which will also lean it out if you don't upgrade the injectors too).

Won't do anything to help your misfiring. All it will do is relearn it's fuel trims.

7ms usually have a "miss" at idle, can you describe your missing when it occurs etc

by any chance are you using water? get any bubbling from the coolant over flow when the engine is turned off after running it for a while?

If thats the case mate you have a blown head gasket. Take it to a mechanic and get a TK test to confirm. TK test "tests" for exhaust gases present in the coolant system which is a blown head gasket.

    sorry mate!

there is no oil mixed with my coolant and it rarely ever gets over the 4th bar - also has been running like this for around 2 months with never getting hot and coolant fine
