1JZGTE - JZX90- Error code 12 CPS issue

Hi guys,

after 14 hours of working on the JZX90, timing belt, water pump, intercooler, thermo fan and gauges replaced.

Last night , we were ready to start, engine would crank but wouldnt fire.

Error code 12 was the issues, which is according to Cygnus, is Crank Position Sensor issues.

So today, once again i tear'ed down the 1JZ to find this:






What i call the "Star thing" on the back of the crank cog had come off , the motor only at 204,000 kms , was an odd thing. After speaking to :
Robbo
Poombah
Mattae86
Adsport
Wilbo

We decided that was the cause of the CPS error , as it would have most likely not been spinning around correctly on the crank. therefore giving the CPS no reading.

So the idea was , carefully "punch" back on the star
or
Get adz to tak weld it.


Anyway, we did this

Make sure that it is in exactly the position it should be...

I.e. in this pic you can see where it used to be located from the marks from the teeth the drive the timing belt...

engine is a go go

Started fine, and can idle (poorly) any throttle and it dies

Engine light = FLASH FLASH -pause- FLASH FLASH

do i consider this 22 error code which is the thermo plug that broke off ?

Error code 22 confirmed, my JZZ20 soarer has identical issue when connector is removed from sensor

Random the 1JZ does it this way.

The 1UZ's is keyed just like the crank timing pulley, and so it can't move. It also gone on AFTER the crank timing pulley.





But none the less, congrats in fixing.
