thats right i forgot about the waterpump having a guard too. Toyota designed it to be pretty trouble free like just everything else they make.

Would the belt hitting the cam cover sound like a chirping noise? Mine does it when idling sometimes, but not all times... every since the last cam belt adjustment/change.
Did you replace the tensioners?
If the bearings are gone in the tensioners they'll make a chirping noise.
Yup, brand new Koyo bearing (same manufacturer as OEM)
