OK biggish project.
Start here. Read this thread and I'm sure Rod mentions which PS steering box he used as well as a pile of other stuff which will be very useful to you.
You'll obviously need custom engine mounts and gearbox crossmember. You will have issues with the rear turbo fouling the steering box irrespective of whether you use the smaller non assisted steering box or a larger PS box. To counter this you'll need to go to a big single, or make a new rear turbo manifold to relocate the rear turbo. Unfortunately this requires you to make new dump pipes (which is a good thing because the standard 2 into 1cast jobbie is a POS). Obviously wiring and setting up an EFI fuel system go without saying.
Do you want the auto to be column shift or are you happy to cut a hole in the tranny tunnel and run a floor shifter? I kept mine column shift - you'll have to do a little funny business with linkages. I'd also recommend sourcing an auto steering column and all the linkages if you plan on staying column shift. Some of the fancy pants models ran floor shifters - so might be worth trying to find those bits if possible. If you don't have buckets in your ute, then you'll need to modify obviously.
The RS56 is leaf spring so I suspect the centre of leaf to centre of leaf distance will be 1000mm, exactly the same as a Hilux. It should bolt straight in using the Hilux U bolts - mine did - you'll need to lightly grind away some of the weld so there U bolts don't bind. As for converting the rears to disc, I have a well documented disc brake conversion for the Hilux diff using 291mm vented rotors.
The fronts are reasonably easy to convert to disc. See if you can source some disc brake stub axles for the MS55, otherwise MS65 stuff bolts up. Then it's a simple matter of modifying some HQ discs and calipers to fit. This conversion and many others are well described on Classicrown. You could of course go nuts and do what Luke did and run his 330mm Hoppers Stoppers kit.
HTH. Cheers Dave.
