drove celica back from mechanics today, back to home, about a 35km trip
drives really good, kept an eagle eye on new temp gauge, slight movements but sat really steady at 100 deg, the engines operating temp is 98....
and having 17" rims on i was worried the speedo would be reading wrong due to the camry tranny and camry's having 15" standard rims, wheel bloke told me current setup up is 13mm smaller then stock camry rolling diameter which is legal,
so figured speedo would be reading faster then true speed, turns out it is right on the money, (go figure).....
so cruising speed in 5th gear on highway revs are 2,200rpm @100kmph...
it drove well and sits nice and stable, cant notice any extra front weight compared to the 5sfe, but i am yet to do any spirited driving,
steering heavy due to no power assist atm but will be sorted in good time,
exhaust is loud and will more then likely have to sort that out before blue slip,
overall very happy with the outcome, few little issues that i noticed on the drive but easy fix's.............
stoked....

yesterday drove celica on its first big(ish) drive since conversion.......168km each way to engineer to inspect for cert.....
eye balled the temp guage all the way there, temp is good, noticed temperature rises when by bout 5-8 deg when on the throttle and high in the revs.....( is this normal) then falls back to running temp a little after returning to normal highway throttle......
passed engineer pending a few changes,
firstly, exhaust was obviously too loud, so fitted new triple flow muffler and tip, pic tomorrow.....
and due to clearence issues with the brake master cylinder have to drop engine approx 8-9mm to allow for the 10mm clearence regulations state, also have to trim little bit off the engine mount that we made to again provide the 10mm clearence between mount and chassis......
so besides that everything else is good, (in the words of the mechanic, really really good for a home conversion).....
so atm a half smile but definately looking good,
other things needed, weigh bridge cert, and speedo calibration cert,
then rta here i come......
as exhaust was
new muffler and tip

Hi guys......
i am extremely glad to report that the v6 is now engineered and leagal, now just going through the process of blue slip and rego..........SO stoked right now....
few surprises for me during this process and been such a long time but not because it was hard, more so personal situations and finding the time to work on it,
firstly..... through the whole conversion process, added weight is 58kg, over the standard factory weight of the celica........so this to me was surprisingly good to hear, knowing that handling wont be too adversly effected......
will be connecting powersteering reseviour and lines this weekend, and giving it a final check over before the mechanic see's it on monday for blue slip.......
next lot of pics will be with powersteering setup and new rego plates, cant wait so excited

Awesome conversion mate, well done. Just the engine they should have had from the factory.
Reading your build thread was like watching a real intense thriller movie as well. I'm going page by page, really worried about how it's going to turn out with that storm trooper front bar and then I get to the final page and breathe a sigh of relief when I see the standard front bar back on and the nice smooth Celica shape is returned to how it should be.
now lets get a cruz happening cant wait to see how she goes grant

well well, didnt realise its been so long since i updated i have been busy prepping my gt4 for a 3vz-fe turbo conversion...........
any way since last update......
i have bought a gt4, got another 3vzfe, got a gt35r turbo,
had the 184 in for, bottom end rebuild as i spun a big end bearing the week before toyota fest last year,
had electrical gremlins and a short in the wiring with a few bad earths,
currently it is running awesome and i am loving driving it around,
so can proudly say,
the 3vz-fe st184 celica conversion is officially complete.......
i will post up some more pic,s but for now i have to update my gt4 build thread......
oh and i will definately be at toyota nationals with it this year i have already booked holidays and am excitied... cant wait....

Bloody good job.
Are you anticipating any major changes compared to the last build, besides the the rear wheel drive. ? Sorry if I missed it, but what transmission are you planning to run it ?
thanx mate........ i am attempting to use the 185 AWD tranmission, with possibility of going to a st205 box if the 185 one doesnt hold, if a 205 box doesnt work i will have to get gears made to strengthen.....
other major diferences between the st184 and the gt4 build,
mainly turbo, and the system required to enable a turbo, eg. ecu, injectors, fuel pump, piping, exhaust etc etc......
so in terms of fitting it into the gt4, it should be similar to the 184, with custom timing cover side engine mount,
and block grinding to allow the awd tranny to clear the block, so not much in actually getting it in, just ancilleries for the added turbo......

What about the mounting of the transmission to the VZ, is it a straight bolt up ? Or will you need to use an adaptor plate ?
