Default how to measure a Cam

    Hey all,

I need to measure a 20v Cam, so I can be sure what it is.

Story is I got them for FREE, took them to Clive Cams so he could make me some nice Billet specials, now he reckons the stock ones I gave him measure in at about 260 if there run at about 10 thou clearance, but as I was told they are stock 20v Cams they should only be around 250.

so I need to clear this up.

use dial gauge and degree wheel.turn cam back and forth and see when cam first move the dial gauge, and then when it gets to 50thou lift

needs the cam to be solidly mounted (in head will do) and degree wheel with pointer on the front

or.. take it to a cam shop with a "cam doctor" measuring thingy

and where does one get a Degree wheel?

Dial Gauge is no problems, but I can't imagine Repco selling a Degree wheel

So put that on, and measure the valve with a dial gauge. When the valve opens and shuts to 50thou thats where the duration starts and ends respectively.

Lift is the max it opens the valve.

I'm guessing to measure the ramp rate you take a few readings at different positions.

For a cheap degree wheel go to Office Works or the local newsagent and buy a small 360 degree protractor for a dollar or two.

do what i did - take cams to Wade Cams, pay $30, come back next day and get full print out for both, with all necessary specs. So much easier and less time consuming
