    Default Genral Metric bolt torque

Tightening torques for screws/bolts with metric coarse-pitch and fine-pitch thread

    Please note:
    • Area of validity:

    • The tightening torque always depends on the diameter and quality of the screws/bolts.

    • The screws/bolts may only be tightened using tested (calibrated) torque wrenches.
    • The thread and head contact surfaces should be carefully lined with roller bearing grease (average coefficient of friction  = 0.125)

    where is this information from?

i personally don't think it provides enough clear information for users of this forum, as well as listing a lot of useless information on bolts larger than 20mm which most toyotas would not have.

it leaves out a lot of common thread forms, uses head sizes not common to JIS or some ISO standards, doesn't mention relevant JIS standards, and it doesn't mention how to identify tensile strengths. it would be well advised to quote an author so that you're not liable for any inaccuracies listed.

it would be unfortunate and disconcerting to hear of bolt failure in critical components due to somebody misunderstanding how to read this information.

i have been working in the fastener industry for five years now, and i know there is alot more to bolts than just this information.

for all those who do wish to use this information, please seek advice from somebody qualified to give it.

just using a high tensile bolt doesn't make something safe.

joint design should be well planned taking into consideration shear and tension loads.

my 2c. sorry if it seemed rantish, but i think it's important.

The tiltle does say genral and on the top of your bolts they give you a tensile strength is given 8.8 10.9 and 12.5 i got these from work Terex Demag. If people think that is should be deleted from this forum i'm more than happy to see it go.
