4age- 4afe head

ok guys ive been all over the net tryin to find the answer to this question, so please if u can help let me no. well im tryin to find out if a 4age head will fit on a 4afe. and please if u know why they will or wont tell me why dnt just say yes or no. thanks in advance for all the help guys

You would be better off just getting a complete 4age. Given the blocks are the same there's little reason why the head shouldn't fit. However, the valve fly cuts on the pistons will most likely be different and you may run into compression issues. I would suggest that if you were to do it, you should strip the bottom end and use at the least 4age pistons. So, hence my first statement of get a complete 4age. The last one I bought cost me $50 from the wreckers in Vic.

Alternatively, if you're going to so much effort you could use a 7afe bottom end and a 4age head.

Technically, it will fit. However, there are big differences in bottom end between 4AFE and 4AGE, which will most likely raise hassles along the way.

Crank (GE is 8-bolt, FE is 6-bolt)
Rods
Pistons
(whole bottom end of smallport and 20v GEs are forged)
Alternator location (left/drivers side of block on GE, right/radiator side of block on FE)
P/S pump location (reverse of above)
Starter motor location (left/drivers side of block on FE, right/radiator side of block on GE)
Water pipes (FE has radiator inlet and outlet both going into gearbox end of head, GE has inlet going to water pump, outlet coming from remote thermostat housing)
Thermostat location (gearbox end of head on FE, remote housing on top of gearbox for GE)

Ahh hell, basically the entire cooling system is different.

In short, it is much easier to just drop in a complete 4AGE. There are plenty of them around, relatively cheap (a long motor isn't much more than a stand-alone head), no mucking around with internals etc etc. At the same time it'd also be worthwhile getting a C52 gearbox to replace the 4AFE's C50 (better ratios)
