will it shift back when u move the gear lever into 2nd of 1st

you never know might mechanical it could be a stuffed governor i think they call it

its usually at back of box and has something to do with rpm or speed but not sure it autos have them these days

if it wont change into 2nd from 3rd when u move stick it just might not be eletrical

it mainly uses speed tps and rpm

temp is mainly to stop[ goin into 4th when cold but my gbox doesnt care how cold it is it will goto 4th so im guessing temp doesnt matter

i know a way to trick the solenoids so it will select which ever gear u want but its not an easy thing to do

wires and test ligths and shit everywhere

When my 2JZ-GTE & A340E suffered the same problem - we tried almost everything to diagnose the problem and it was the TPS in the end..

It's easy to remove (or leave on) at test, that would be my first suggestion..

Grab a Multimeter and check the voltage across the brown (and blue I think) wires - from memory it should be 0-5 Volts (0% to 100% throttle)

    The box is fine mechanically.

Getting any of those boxes to select whatever gear you want is as easy as applying power to the solonoids - cost you all of around $1 in electrical bits (funny how the wire, connectors etc. always multiply the cost though!)

Not all autos refuse to use top gear when cold, only some - seems to be a bit of a hangaround idea from the old days.

If you have the transmission set to normal it wont kick down to first if the car is moving, if you have it to pwr then it will. Its more of a comfort thing than anything else, just like merc starting in 2nd gear from stationary unless you apply more than 3/4 throttle, then it will kick down to 1st.
