Not so much for posting usefull information
almost all of my rep has come from contributions to tech, some from general, some from membership section, and a bit from OT (not warranted imho )
if you make a contribution that someone else finds useful, they should rep you for it, but currently, people don't, and i see many instances of rep for crap (just search for something like "rep for joo" ) in threads where rep is not warranted... but still.. i suppose the sooner everyone gets over it the better..
i haven't changed my style of posting much from old forum (less flaming tho), and for some reason, ppl seem to appreciate it. but being a member and not selling things, it makes no difference to me (even your neg rep Nim thanks!)

bottom line. post something that this toyota technical community appreciates and rep should follow.
    post shit and be damned

Like WTF? I had 17 rep points yesterday and now I am on zero not happy jan!
How the hell you think I am going to contribute when I have near nothing in rep, great inscentive there (*roll my eyes*). Check my posts for crying out loud! I wish there wasnt keyboard warriors in such high possitions.

Look I am a recent member on these forums and I havnt been upto to speed with whats going on on here for a while. I try to contribute as much info as I can, but I dont own a toyota. I have been reading pages upon pages of really cool interesting thread here and its great. I would have to say that other than Ausrotary this forum is probably the best on the net. The tech reads have had me going on here for like 4 hours at a time. I love reading about the cool conversions that you guys are upto. I have even linked some cool articles/threads to relevent sections on Ausrotary especially the diff threads with those interested in hilux diffs.

Im no fly by nighter by any means....even check my traderfeedback status on ausrotary if you dont believe me. I just thought that having an engine that would interest many people on this forum at a very very cheap price would be worth posting thats all.

By the way how do I get my reputation out of the pits from zero and back upto 17 like yesterday?

Can anyone tell my why my rep went from 17 to zero in a 24hr period?

I dont post whore or post crap, so if thats an aswer to my dilemer than dont even bother.

    Cheers,

    James

There are people out there who haunt the techncial sections and will gladly give you good rep for posting something that is deemed useful to them and others. That's the place you go to get the most rep points - but be warned, these areas of the forums also taketh away if you post dribble or your post is inaccurate.

I assume you drive/own a Toyota? There must be things you have done to the car or things you know about your car that may be useful to other people. I also assume you drive? If so you can also offer driving experiences and other things. I'm sure you're not a vacuous person and, like all of us, will have something to offer and be rewarded for it.

the same way you give any rep except tick the aprroval box, though your rep won't count cos you don't have a rep of ten

By the way I know my sig doesn t work....but if people want to se they can.

I think that pics in sigs can make threads messy at times, but on other forums I post a pic in my sig cause everyone else does. Meh...

I guess I will have to find stuff in the tech section that I have a knowledge of.

I know I posted in the forsale section in someones post trying to help them with a potential buyer asking about if a T-03 flanged turbo will fit onto his car bla bla bla...doesnt that even count for at least 1 point?

So it would have counted yesterday when I had 17? Guess I should have never even started this thread....oh well. I learn from my mistakes.

07XTC normally double posting is bad but quadrupple(sp?)
when you have rep >10 your rep counts <10 it comes up as neutral

No worries mate. As more people get higher posts and higher rep points they can add up to 5 points in a rep, but at the forums are still new and a lot of people are only able to give 1 rep point - so getting rep points may appear painfully slow. But, this will improve (as more of us have the ability to offer more than 1 rep point) - it won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

To give rep you click on the little blue-scales icon on the top-right of the post, then you'll go to another screen where you can approve (+ve rep) or disapprove (-ve rep). You can only do 10 reps per 24hr period. You can rep the same person after you have repped 14 other people in the interim. If your current rep is less than 10 then your rep is worth 0, but it will be valid for the 10rep/24hr and 15rep/same-user count.

If you're a Toymods Club Member then you will be able to see the names of the people who gave you the last 5 reps, along with the thread for which you got rep - be it -ve or +ve.

I now make it a haboit of adding " -river" on all my rep comments so non-Toymod members can at least see that i gave them rep. It's just a little touch of river kindness.

Yep, I'll vouch for that. He was a fiesty and uppity young man in the old forums and took no quarter when he parleyed (spell?) with the noobs and dunderclumps who frequented the old place by the hordes.

I know the fire will return to his belly one day as he masses more points and will wield his wit and words like a sharpened scythe to those who deserve it.

Even Cool1 is getting his old fire back and it's a grand and reassuring sight.

But fear not, we play hard and fair and a good post - be it technical in nature, or a damn good question, or even something that tickles our humourous side will be rewarded with +rep.

I really don't know how many times people have to be told but IF you ASK for rep you will be knocked down a peg or 10 if an admin see's it!

07XTC you asked how you went from 17 rep to 0 over night, from looking at the rep comments every one of them was for trying to advertise in this section of the forum.\

A small percentage of people bitch about the rules but as you've seen a hell of a lot of people agree with them and are happy to use rep to help enforce them.

I see earlier that you mentioned you'd read the FAQ's but couldn't find anything about how to get reputation, if you click on FAQ at the top of the page then search for reputation there is plenty of info about how to give rep and why it's important etc.

What people seem to fail to realise is that posting for sale items on the Toymods forum is not a right it's a privillege. This has to be earnt by contributing to the community. Unfortunately most people think everything should be given to them on a platter rather than doing anything to earn it. This last comment is not specifically in relation to 07XTC but a general statement.
