MA61 brake master cylinder alternatives found NEW MC $120

Hey guys,

Brake master cylinder shat itself yesterday whilst bleeding and i need to get a new one sorted out. The price for a proper ma61 is crazy at $400-$600 and the rebuilt kits is around $300-$400.

I also priced up a ma70 one which is around $300 new.

Ive been searching on these forums and a few other places and noticed that you can maybe use a landcruiser one? which cost around $90. Does anyone know the model of landy its off so i can track one down?

Any other models of cars they are the same on that anyone might know?

You can get it stainless sleeved for around $80 and a new seal kit (just seals, not pistons...) is ~$25

Seal kit is MCX Brand, KX492X is the same as K7594X.

Awesome ill pull the old one apart tom arvo and see how rooted it is, hopefully it just needs new seals and she will be right

If anyone else has a cheap new MC solution post it up

i think that's the cheapest solution apart from getting a good MC from the wreckers from something similar (RA65/RA60) that's also in good condition

Ring around and get some prices on resleeve + seal. My brake master went not long ago and the prices of new replacements was crazy.

Ma70 has a different (bigger?) bore so no need to go down that path unless other brake changes require it (can't imagine what would though - the Nissan 4-spot upgrade works nicely with stock master).

thanks for all the replies, i tracked down a rebuild kit from MCX from my local brakes dealer and will be rebuilding it once it comes in.

The bore looks in pretty good nic apart from the sludge in it and the piston is aftermarket and has zero wear, guess i might be lucky this time around.

But yea replacement ones are crazy, who would pay $400+ for one?

I replaced one on a customer car several months ago, and it didn't cost anything like that much to buy a new one.

I have used an mid 90's hilux something or rather one on my project car.
Mainly because it is a little shorter and points away from my turbo setup.

Cost 60bux from the local wreckers.
Ill see if I can get hold of the part number for ya.
Probarly have a half decent spare one at home somewhere too.

I have found a cheaper solution for a brand spanking new one

Part number JB1502 (pbr maybe?) cost me $120 from my local brake guy and is brand spanking new and is a perfect fit.
