Default mx83 clutch pedal & master cylinder

In the middle of a manual conversion to an mx83 (1jzgte with r154 gearbox)

Run into a bit of a snag with the master cylinder and clutch pedal box...

I've searched and there is a lot of info out there, but nothing very definitive.

Anyway the jza70 item (master cylinder, pedal box and assembly) out of the half cut we're using is close but no cigar, I've heard of these being modified to suit: can anyone elaborate on how this is done? Holes would need to be drilled in firewall in order for the master cylinder bolts to line up, but then there's still the problem of the top bolt that goes in the pedal box not lining up, and the whole assembly seems to sit on the wrong angle and doesn't seem like it would allow the clutch anywhere near enough travel

Are there any other bolt in alternatives besides gx81/lx81 gear? One source seemed to think that an item from a hilux surf had been used in his x83, not sure if that is an option or not though.

So can anyone can give me a definite answer on something that will bolt in without drilling holes in firewalls? Or if I do have to drill holes, exactly what's required

Many thanks to anyone who can give me some more insight

not really, we need to know exactly how to mount the JZA70 pedal, how people made it line up as this is the problem we are experiencing and all it says in there is that someone has done it, not how, but thanks anyways alteast now we know it can be done

Ask Darrien or Siri on the cressida forum. They have both done it. Plus many others I'm sure.

never did any drawing practice sorry.
In blue is what needed to be modify. Something similar, if you hold up the pedal you will know what I mean. So just a matter of lining it up against the holes on the firewall and mark out new holes.

as you've said before, need to drill 2 new holes, this will make it sit straight. And to be able to mount it you will need to weld an extension on there about 1-2 inches.
on the mx83 the hole is there but it is further away.

to make it line up against brake pedals you need to make a spacer, or add some washers between the firewall and the pedal bracket.

ill take pictures of my clutch pedal in my cressida mx83 when i get home from work.

im using a ga70 clutch pedal and MC (same shit) and brake pedal arm (using mx83 brake pedal box)

theres plenty of travel when this is done properly. i drilled 2 holes on the firwall (to suit the different bolt pattern of the supra MC) and made an extended bracket to bolt to the top bit of the supra clutch pedal box.

thanks to eviljack for this pic

Thought I'd add some more info in here as I figure it might be useful to people if it comes up in a search

If anyone ever has a stuffed or leaking jza70 clutch master cylinder, no aftermarket parts stores have listings for rebuild kits or replacement items. I did a lot of searching and cross referencing to figure this out, PBR part number K8566 is a compatible rebuild kit - this kit is intended for LN107 hilux, SW20 mr2 among a long line of other toyota clutch master cylinders which share the same bore. The kit comes complete with new piston incl new seals (pre-installed), spring, split pin and circlip and is identical to the internals of the supra item

The pedal box we got to fit, a tip for anyone with a half cut (a supra one at least), you can drill out two spotwelds which hold the plate into the firewall where the clutch MC bolts on and use it as a template on where to drill the firewall in your donor car. We managed to get away without lengthening the bit of metal going to the top hole, we just spaced it out from the fiewall some more using tube welded to the pedal box.

After all this we weren't getting enough throw to fully engage the clutch, so a lengthened slave cylinder rod was fabricated (approx 1inch longer), this engaged it enough to grab gears. note that when we modified the pedal box we also lengthened the pushrod for the clutch MC around 2 inches (IIRC)
