Ok here's a couple of pics. It says ECCS on the injection. The guy did mention that the injection came off a later model.

Speaking to the ex owner's father this morning, he recollects that the turbo is from an RB25 and has been highflowed. He reckons the tranny has been modified heavily but can't remember what size converter. The injection is from a later model as well, he said the head and bottom end are stock and that it's the same type that was used at Bathurst years ago.

ahhh all is not lost!! you should be able to get some reasonable power from that then. how much boost is it running?

if the turbo still has the orig ceramic turbine then about 12lb is the max RELIABLE boost you could run. the ceramic wheel's tend to delaminate at 14-15lb.

probably best to get it on a dyno and see exactly what is holding it back, because it seems to have all the basic mods atm to net around 150+rwkw.

you really should go manual is you want to get the most out of it. an RB20 gbox is only about 4-500.

Apparently the ex-owner took it out to WSID and ran a 13.1 on 18lb boost.
I'm trying to track down the original engine builder to get more info but can't find him yet.

18lb would suggest that it has a steel-wheeled turbo then. motor seems to be the goods then, stock bottom end in an RB20 can take alot of punishment.

13 is pretty quick though for an RB20, perhaps the converter is whats holding it back. i'd be trying to find out more info about the gbox build, because the motor seems to be up to scratch if it's running that quick.

1J it, then u know what mods have been done, just get a 2800rpm stallie from MV and it will probably decimate the RB, then u can get on the 1J list
    JZX83+ FMIC+ Twin 2.5" dumps to 3"+ FCD+ 2800rpm stallie+ 14psi - LSD - good tyres = 12.85 @105.58

Don't know if you've gone to see anyone about a stall converter yet, but if you are over the Northern Beaches way, go see Col Voss Automatics, and ask for Rhys. They recondition/rebuild automatic transmissions, and he builds high performance jobbies. He'll be able to advise you on where to go to for a good stall converter, or at least tell you what you could do to get some more oomph out of the car.

Jampac had his Gearbox Rebuilt by Col Voss over Nthrn Beaches.... His trans performed flawlessly after ! Never missed a beat, and was smooth on the street as well.

    Greg,

I only just sawthis thread sorry mate. Tom here at SAS knows more about the RB20's and RB25's etc than anyone I know. Today is my last day here so I won't be arround but if you get it booked in the boys can deffinatly look over it, let you know what it has, what you can do to improve it and give you some options.

Food for thought tho, The RB20 is the low perfromance Nissan engine, The do not perform as well as a 1G.

    No worries Rod.
It needs a tune so I'll take it down there and see what they say. I just need to get a couple of days off work to sort a few things out.

I knew the Nissan wasn't as good as the 1G and I asked the previous owner why they went the RB route instead of 1G and he really had no answer for it.

I'm not that interested in making huge horsepower out of it, I'm quite happy with how it performs other that it being a slug off the line. When doing 80-100 kays down the M5 and ya put the boot in it responds well and goes hard but it's the launch that is letting it down.

    Cheers,Greg.

p.s. Where's your new job at Rod?
