Hi guys
I will be doing a mcpherson strut conversion on an AE111 next week, i still want to retain my twin piston brake calipers, according to the superstrut caliper conversion guide on the net, the mcpherson strut brake disc is 20mm smaller in diameter than the superstrut, so i either have to machine my brake disc down by 20mm overall diameter or preferably i'd like to get a 10mm caliper adapter made to fit my brake disc and caliper, assuming that the ae111 mcpherson strut brake dimentions is the same as the 101 mcpherson strut.
does anyone know where i can get a brake caliper adapter CNC'ed in sydney?
cheers

nuh don't have a diagram but i figured that you probably won't be able to fit an adapter... since it sits on the same offset and is only less than 10mm in
might have to machine the disc diameter down after all..
you don't need one, it just makes life faster if you have a template![]()
You sure you need to do anything?
The Macpherson strut brake disc and caliper could be matched for that size.
Likewise the superstrut rotor & caliper.
I upgraded my last Caldina with:
- started with 256mm rotor & single piston caliper
- kept 256mm rotor, added JDM St185 twin piston caliper
- ST205 rotor (315mm machined down to 300mm) & ST205 calipers
- ST204 278mm rotor & ST204 single piston calipers
The current twin piston calipers off my ST215 Caldina would bolt on instead of the ST204 ones.
Had to do the ST205 machined down because the ST205 has a complete unique superstrut front end,
but compare 1 with 4, or even my the current brakes, there was no mods needs.
Try dummy fitting the rotor & caliper first before doing adaptors, you might be surprised.
Toyota don't change things that much.
well.. you're actually right, i worked it out and here's the thing:
complicated story really..
ae101 255mm mcpherson brakes bolt on to the ae92
but ae101 superstrut brakes don't bolt on since the disc is 20mm larger in diameter, 275mm
so from that information i gathered that the caliper is mounted max 10mm further (20 divided by 2)
but since the superstrut caliper is different, it's possible that twin pot will be able to accomodate slightly more area than the single pot. according to conversions which other people have previously done, it seems that they only need to machine the brake disc down to 262mm, so that's 13mm decrease from 275, therefore it only accomodates (20-13)/2=3.5mm extra...
initially i was thinking of making an adapter so it can accomodate the 275mm disc, found out it's impossible to make an adapter that'll only space it out by 7.5mm with no offset changes, so i have since gave up on that thought and decided to just machine the disc down in diameter.
also i thought i'd point out as well, after confirming with terra op and doing my own measurements, the hub size of the ae101 ae111 superstruts are 55mm, unlike the 54mm mentioned in the brake conversion post from twincam
however, according to endless straight 6 disc catalogue, there were 2 part numbers for ae101 superstrut, one was the same as the ae111 superstrut disc, the other one was for earlier first year release model, so i assumed that was probably the 54mm hub disc

hmmm seems like the superstrut suspension seems to have the calipers mounted further out.
I had to take 7.5mm off the radius of the ST205 rotors so that they fit a macpherson struts hub with the ST205 calipers.
yeah most people machine down the rotor so the caliper mounts up with no other modification.
