Hmm it does look a little scored in there...btw I understand how shite a job it is to get to it too.
Also on the note of adding a copper washer, from the look of it (I haven't studied how it works in detail) the pressure relief is set by the pressure on the spring, if you place a copper washer under the bolt you will reduce the pressure (F = -kx rings a bell for spring pressure/force and displacement, assuming it is a linear operating region (and it's spring constant is 'k') -> likely).
You'd want to spacer on the inside of the bolt to keep the spring at the correct force I would think.
Also with GT on staying away from Teflon tape there for the reasons he said.
I think the silicon option is a good one.

no way that o-ring is designed to hold pressure, the more i think about it, the more im convinced its a symptom of something else, all pressure fittings will be copper washers.

Thanks for all the comments guy, VERY much appreciated...
Last night we stripped it down.. (is this the 4th or 5th time - shit I reckon I can do it with my eyes closed now..) anyway stripped it down to remove the covers etc and degreased the whole engine and underneath etc and then put it back together to a stage where we could start it and check where the leak is coming from for sure..
Apart from a slight mishap where one of us forgot to loop the Auto trans cooler line (which resulted in a huge puddle of Dextron III on the ground -d'oh) we managed to see that there was heaps of oil coming out, but it was hard to tell where from (wasn't the oil pressure valve area the other blokes reckon, - I was watching elsewhere, so remain skeptical LOL), but they thought it was the crank seal instead...
Sooo, tonight we changed the crank seal and put it back together enough to start it and check for leaks.... so far so good... ( but I still remain skeptical... LOL)
I hope that it's fixed now, I am going to be sooo pissed if I have to pull it down again...
I will be buying a oil pressure guage (anyone know what scale I will need?, or what the correct pressures are) to double check the pressures are A-OK...
Thanks again everyone that replied with useful info... where do I send the Beers ?![]()

The front crank seal is a well recognised leak point for the 2JZ, but I thought that was only when the wick was really turned up.
I'll post up the oil pressure values tomorrow.
Front crank seals will leak on any motor when they're getting on a bit.Originally Posted by gianttomato
These leak brand new. Multiple threads on www.supraforums.com about fixes.
Anyway, oil pressure specs (as per manual) are:
> 7 psi @ idle, and
47 - 84 psi @ 4000 rpm.
With my 2JZGE, I see >100 psi driving along when cold.

Awesome - Thanks HEAPS gianttomato...
I definitely owe you a beer or three.....
look, if you get sick of it i have a spare 1j laying around i could swap you for that 2j, will solve the problem straight away. (runs and hides)

What a awesome offer, thanks heaps Shane
As much as I would love to, it's probably not the best move as my 2J will probably be too powerful for you and I'd hate to see you get scared behind the wheel..
ha ha ha ha ha ha
(stands and giggles... i'm not running anywhere - that's excercise)![]()
