chemiweld could work or not. Its a bitch to clean up afterwards, i had to flush my rad professionally and replace water pump.
Put it this way, it cant hurt the motor.

If its a lowly 5M-E i would highly recommend ChemiWeld (i never thought i would say that) for now. Reason being is that for the effort you may as well put something decent in the engine bay and by now the rad will need cleaning anyway.

There's been no mention from what I can see of what part of the gasket has failed? Cylinder to cylinder? Cylinder to coolant jacket? Cylinder to oil gallery?
Chucking in a bottle of chemiweld or similar may only help if it's a coolant leak.
Gasket may even be fine and the head or block may be cracked??
Who knows without seeing or getting a better description??

so.. maybe you should take the head off first and examine the underside of the head and block?

FRom practical experience Chemiweld may work if not leaking into oil.Originally Posted by takai
Had a MS63 wagon daily driver someone had put 5meu into. Started using coolant and running rougher. No sign of water in oil. Extremely broke at time.
Drained coolant, used 4 litre bottles of deminieralised water to refill etc followed Chemiweld instructions. drove for about a week with it in to make sure. Drained, backflushed radiator using hose and rag in bottom hose to push anything back out of tubes that may have accumulated, refilled with coolant. Drove for approx another two years no sign coolant loss since ran smoother. Never took head off so no proof what was wrong. Suspicions head gasket problems based on many years running M series engines in crowns (did not want to really confirm problem as would have not trusted car if knew how bad it was and could not afford to fix) As engine was not original etc did not car if could not rebuild after us.
That means i may have to buy it first! Which is one of the problems i am trying to work around!Originally Posted by Vios-GT_07

hey hey hey, good news...just rang the guy again and found out that the head gasket is blown into the exhaust....so there is water leaking into the exhaust.....it took me a while to understand and figure out how that worked but that means i dont need to rip the head off.....it would be a good idea...but i dont have to do it.....i can just drop some chemi-weld in there!

wait a second.....doesnt that sorta mean that the head would be cracked??

doesn't that mean ur head gasket is broken, and water gallieries is leaking into the engine, particularly on top of the piston, so it's coming out the exhaust?
lots of white smokey exhaust?

guy said it drives normally and such!
possible head cracked after the valve so water enters through the port??
because if it drives normally that would mean no water is entering the combustion chamber!!
mmmm headf$ck!

hm
don't think so much of it.. u know you have a BHG.. so just fix it..
when u take the head off you'll see where the head gasket is broken.. that will answer all your head fuck questions![]()

..what i reckon you should do is to assume the head is fudked..work out the amount of money needed to fix it. subtract this amount from the price he wants for the car and then offer him the new amount...buy the car and fix it...
no amount of cyber diagnostics will tell you what you will find....
cheers leso
yea, point taken!!
ill see if anything comes up in tomorrows Quokka, if not, looks like ill have a BHG to fix!
maybe ill just chemi-weld it...n if that dont work just fix the BHG properly!...but i hate doing sh$t dodgy..
Can you answer my 5m-e vs. 5m-ge head gasket problem.....Are they the same??? they should be!!!
just want to check!
thanxs
