a socket is also an option of you get stuck. You have the right idea about the drill through the seal to help it go on straight tho.
I want to install my own valve stem seals and it looks to be straight foward to me, its for a 20V and as far as I can tell I just need to get a bolt, drill a 9.5mm hole in it and use that to push them in by the shoulder.
Has anyone done this and is it a bad idea?

oh so thats what its for, gee I feel a bit silly now,
this however gives me more confidence as if I drill the cup shape close enoguh not only will it only push it in by the shoulder but it will also hold it somewhat straight
would it be too much to ask if you take some pics while you do it? i Have a feeling i need to replace the Stem seals on my 3S-GE but wouldn't have the foggiest idea on what to do.
sure thing
This ought to help you a little bit.

On the 20v the exhaust seals are the same as the 16v so the 11mm 1/4" drive socket will be perfect for them. It may work on the intakes as well, but you'll be able to tell immediately if it will or not. You might need to go up/down a size or two for it to fit over the 20v intake valve stem seal but still push on the metal cup portion to seat it correctly.
Andrew
thanks andrew but I have finished as of today. I drilled out the right size into the end of a bolt but I only used it on two untill I found something better... my thumb! I found I could put them ontop with a long nose pliers and then with a firm push of my thumb they would nicely clip in. To say it was easier that I expected is a massive understatement to say the least!
