    Quick Search, two results

    http://forums.celicasupra.com/showth...ghlight=5%2F7m
    http://forums.celicasupra.com/showth...ghlight=5%2F7m

Should get you by, but by the look of it you will need to swap 5mge pistons into a 7mge block because of the 4valve to 2valve etc.

    Like I said, DO IT!

    Hmm,

Sounds like a fair bit of hassle for minimal gains…
I already have 5m oversize pistons / rings and bearing on the way.
Prolly just going to mill down the head / block a little…
Need to crunch some numbers on compression..
last thing I need is a ping factory that requires 105octaine just to get up hills.

Theres always the upgrade option in a few years
Why 6 cyl when you can have a 1GZ-FE!… grin
Don’t laugh, I have already considered this too ;p
Got a 1UZ kicking around at mates place too…..

    Angry Re: 5MGE Rebuild Begins...Head anyone ?!

    G'day,

    Little update.
Spent some more time cleaning up the 'new' head I was going to use.
Found that 5 out of 6 combustion chambers have cracks between the
sparkplug and inlet valve seat $&%^ !!

So next question, any one local to WA with a spare 5MGE head ?
Is really annoying now, as my rebuild kit is already been shipped
and also just bough a new set of head bolts :|

Otherwise I would be now more tempted to go down the 7M path...
Going up to mates place this arvo, gunna oogle the 1UZ too
Shame they don’t bolt to a W Series gearbox....

    Ok,

    Quick update, PARTS ARRIVED !!

Not too bad, about 3 weeks from the US.
Also picked up another engine for bits (Cheers Rudi !).

The pistons look a little different from the ones I have, much larger dome then the standard ones.
May have to do a dry run to see that there is no interference issues.
    Little more compression shouldn’t hurt.
All “Rock Products” brand, apparently made in the USA.
    Cost around $470 AUD delivered

Hopefully should be able to get the block of to the shop next week.

Here is a quick pic of the 2 different pistons, (old / new)

The new ones have a considerable dome on the top, about 4-5mm (need to measure accurately)
The old pistons are virtually flat, maybe 1mm dome

Another interesting thing I noticed, when I disassembled my new (2nd) motor, it also had the same pistons with larger domes.
Going to do some more measurements on weekend for comparison.
I am pleased to see that this new head is in very good condition, much cleaner no big cracks seen (so far).

My porting kit just came in the mail yesterday, will start attacking it on the weekend
& post some before / after pix.

I now have 3 5M TB's, hmm custom set of runners, cams..air box.... grin

I'm guessing you have an 82/83 low compression 5MGE then?

Does it have a square throttle position sensor, twin V-belts for the alternator/waterpump, and no knock sensor ?

Yer, this is a realy old 5MGE,
The Supra is a 1981 import, so all analogue efi stuff.
    Still runs ok though
Will put more pix pf stuf this arvo.

    G'day

    Another little update,
New head looks smik as, no cracks at all
However the f#*k'n lifters are welded into it.. already destroyed 2 trying to get em out.
I have a good spare set to replace em.
Any tips on removing these stubborn suckers? kinda need something like a huge easy-out...

Here's a better pic of old vs new pistons

old are 82mm, new are 83.3mm, the new dome step is about 2.6mm
Crank / rods all measure the same, had a nasty little burr on one of the main journals,
otherwise in fairly good condition (will have it ground / polished anyway).

Will get the block / head off to the shop on monday.
If all goes well shouold be ready to re-assemble next weekend.

    Quick Update,

All the bits have now been sent off to the shop.
They rekon about 5 days to have everything ready.
If all goes well I should have the bottom end back together on the
    weekend.
Head work will take a little longer, going to clean up the ports
and match all the inlet manifolds.

Havent been able to find anyone local who has 5mge cam profiles, so will probarly be
leaving the cams standard, may go find a nice set of extractors insted
