MX5 mania sells the federal 595RSRs for $210 in your size.

I havent tried em yet but they reckon they're pretty good. I'm gonna chuck a set on my stock rims (15") for track day tyres next.
Even if you could get the RT615s in your size I would be hesitant. I tried the RT215s on my MX5 and they were rubbish. They never really heated up properly, i tried a big range of differnet pressures and just couldnt get any grip out of them. They seem to suit heavier cars alot better than light ones.
Has anyone used 215s and 615s? much difference?
you sir have just made my day
+rep to you
hmm... 205/40R16's for RT615's.. If only I'd known previously about these![]()

Yeah saw that previously. And then promptly forgot about it.Originally Posted by greatbuzup

Very interesting. I found the RT615s on the 1500kg Liberty were pretty bad when the temps were low (ie: close to 0).Originally Posted by greatbuzup
Lots of snap oversteer in Winter which is odd for such a progressive tyre.
So yeah you may have a point if the MX-5 can't get them warmed up enough.
Don't fit on 6.5" wheels though.Originally Posted by finney

I've got the re001 on my Starlet in a 195/50/15, and pushed really hard on the track they started chewing out the outer shoulders just slightly. Thats on 2 deg -ve camber, could do with more I think.
I can tell which end is starting to go and adjust accordingly.
For the money I reckon they are a great tyre, faster than a Toyo T1R 205/40/17 on a set of rims that gave the car 20mm more track. I thought they were pretty good, until I did same and faster times on the re001. They still have plenty of tread left despite having done 5 or so track days at Winton. I only have 83kw atw, but only pushing 940kg. I took them off because I have to park in a very dubious suburb for workBut 15's are faster!! so it's a win.
I'd rate the rs2s as a cheater street tyre, not a real semi slick, but you're not going to get the same distance as a regular premium tyre, they are VERY soft for a tyre that is not a semi slick, my friends got about a year out of them, 2-3 track days thrown in.
The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
here in malaysia i dun have the chance to do any trackdays but i did alot of 0-400m dash runs on street, semi slicks and radials...
for the best streetable tyres ( i had ever used ) i will rate the federal 595 non RS on top of my list... for drift, it gives hell lots of smoke, control and grip wid a very cheap price tag. it cost MYR 365 for a 235/45-17 less than aussie 130 bucks. for drag... its the only street tyre that i could clock 12'800 ish region.... others, including the rs2 hankook can only do early 13'010 ish region.
rs2 it looks like a semi slick. but it doesnt perform at all like a semi slick. and yes it does wear off faster than any road tyre. the thread is not as deep as federal. they are bit more expensive. MYR430 each for the same size wid my federal. that will cost you somewhere 200-210 dollars.
toyo proxes 888 anyone tried b4? its the best semi slick IMHO. i used silverstone, latest dunlop direnza, older dunlop wit horizontal thread. i would rate toyo top of the list. it wears pretty equally. doesnt really flake of in chunks. followed by the latest dunlop , older dunlop version and silverstone on the worst ranking. silverstone is good for around 50% of wear and tear and after that its worst than even a street tyre.not a good bang of buck.
advan neova despite of road noise is a very good overall tyre... but to compare price tags as well, my vote goes to federal 595. i got no chance to try 595RS since its no where available here in malaysia but in my opinion it should be heaps better than plain 595. if 595 is good, logic tells me the RS will be much much better
Drift Drift Drift and drift untill getting high fever...
That's a big rap renxun. I'm even more keen to try the feds now.
I have been using proxes R888s now for about a year or two and have been fairly happy with them. They have pretty good grip and warm up quickly, take a long time to over heat. a good track tyre. having sad that, I tried a set of yokohama A048s last time out and was significantly quicker. no more toyos for me.
the dunlops you mention are good too, the D02s and D01s. They aren't cheap though..
A couple of you don't rate the toyo T1R as a good tyre. Is this from a track perspective, or a street tyre??
I recently forked out for these in 235/40 and 265/40/18, (not cheap at all), on a recommendation for "enthusiastic street tyres", but am yet to do any real miles on them.
