Default 1G Clutch Prices, particularly Exedy

    Hey Guys,
Trying to get a feeler for what people have paid for GEN 3 1G heavy duty clutches (or standard) in recent times.

My supplier quoted me $265 (trade price) for an exedy heavy duty, after they asked what it was for, they said there were two types and I said good, I want the late model one cos its the bigger one. Also got a few other prices for comparision that day, and this is what they gave me:

    PBR standard $130
    RPM heavy duty $230
    Exedy heavy duty $265
    Exedy cushioned button $525

So then I ordered the exedy heavy duty at $265 and made the point that I definately neede the late model one, and got it off them, and went to put it in my car last weekend and turns out they gave me a gen 1/2 clutch as it was too small!

so I took the clutch back and said order me the right one, and they got it all right, with an invoice attached for $509 Gerrard had picked it up on his way home so i only just found out.

But seriously, has anyone else bought and exedy heavy duty gen3 1G clutch and what have you paid for it??? I find it really strange that all of a sudden its $509, I may as well get the CB for $525!! Or maybe that price is also wrong

Note I have known my supplier for a long time, my family has been dealing with them since I was 12 and im almost 24, and we have held a trade account with them this whole time. Normally they are pretty good but I think the young guy I dealt with has stuffed something up bigtime, but I dont see why I should have to pay for his mistake when I specifically hunted around for prices before I made a purchase! and it was a quoted price.

Yeah when I was pricing them there was a big price difference. I ended up buying a gen II clutch and flywheel to avoid paying the hiked up price.

I've read places but never found exact details but there is a supposed hilux or other similar clutch that is the same diameter. Got no idea if the pressure plate with it matches the 1g flywheel though.

the 225mm clutch is cheap, generally around 350-400 for a quality button clutch.

the 240mm on the other hand is normally close to twice the price (from my experience) but im not sure as to why.

$509 trade is decent for a button but not sure if i would pay that for a std plate with organic disc.

    cheers

speaking of the exedy HD clutches, are they worth paying the extra for? im getting one for my mz11 with 224 clutch and it uses the same one as well.

i got quoted 236 from super cheep for the HD with no trade discount... it would pay to shop around.

Just also found that my custom flywheel is also wrong it was supposed to be made to match my 1G flywheel, but it was one he happened to have on the shelf, everything fits except the clutch to flywheel bolts and dowels are wrong, so the clutch cover wont fit.. So now im looking on exedy's website to see what toyotas came out with the same clutch diameter as the gen3 1g. The one I need is 236mm. It seems there are a few clutch discs on exedy's website with the same diameter, spline OD and no of teeth, and most are the same disc part number. Im hoping the flywheel was made to suit a different clutch cover, and that i can just get a different clutch cover if I can find what it is.

Soooo anyone know what cars come with a 236mm clutch and a 6 bolt flyhweel to crankshaft pattern same as the T/G series engines?

Note that there are only a few sizes of clutch that toyota make, so one from another engine may fit. Gen3 1G might be same as somethign like a W58 1JZ ?? Of course, the application has to be right...

Quite some time back I bought a rebuilt 5-puck ceramic sprung-centre clutch for my 1G. When I went to fit it, it turns out that it was for a gen 3 and I have a gen 2.

Anyway, it will be available for sale in a week or so if anyone is interested.

My Gen 2 is definetly the smaller size, same as 22RE - tried to run the gen 3 ceramic puck clutch centre with the heavy-duty 22RE pressure plate I had for a few drives, but it's inadequate on boost.

I found this $500 HD gen 3 clutch as well and the clutch guy that looked it up also wondered why the HD exedy was so much more expensive than the PBR HD. And then discovered that the PBR kit was listed for the supra and a hilux (3y engined IIRC). So he looked up the exedy HD for the hilux and it was like 260bucks....

He checked all the part numbers that made up the hilux kit and found out it was the same as the Supra kit.

    part number is TYK6918HD.

Just because something fits doesn't mean it suits the application, I think this is an important distinction.

you think a manufactor is going to make 30 different clutches to suit a fly wheel that sits behind 5 different motors... hell no, 1 flywheel 1 base clutch, just like toyota and they you chose what clutch you need from there, if you want something to really suit your application its best to get a custom one built but a professional that can build it to suit your HP, useage and budget.

ive been looking for a clutch for my Z11 6mge and like said above, 1g, 5m/6m/7m, 20/22r are all the same with the 224mm fly or can use the 236mm flywheel. all theoes exedy clutch have the same part number.

Seeing at is it a 'custom' flywheel... it might use the M series clutch cover? 7M came with 236mm clutches... not sure if the cover is same as Gen 3 1G...

I've got a 7M pressure plate at home that you can try if you want?

    Cheers

Clutch itself the same? Sure. Pressure plate? I should hope not.

You can put a stock-replacement 22RE or 21R-C or 2S-C or whatever clutch behind a 1G if you really want to :S

hey guys while we are on the topic of clutch prices, when ever my 1G GTE hits boost the car will rev out but the speed doesnt increase, its just like the clutch is on, is this just a slipping clutch?
