Default JZA70 wont start...problem is very very wierd

    Hey all,

today my brothers (Spiller) JZA70 decided it didn't want to start, it cranks, fires once and then dies, ok so we whip out the old paper clip and bridge E1 and Te1 because the check engine light is on...it throws two codes the o2 sensor one (thats because it doesn't have it plugged in) and code 14...

so after consulting the document which describes fault codes it was revealed that it might be a problem with either the ignitor or ECU

So ive borred both items off a mate and tried them both and it still wont start, but as soon as we plug in my mates working ECU it doesnt even fire once...it just cranks...but the check engine light is off

When we plug my brothers ECU back in the engine light goes back on...

I have checked and rechecked the plugs on both the ignitor and ecu...but still having this problem

Any help would be much appreciated!

have you got fuel, check that you have fuel pressure at the rail, would be the best place to start, does it take a while to crank over, when you get it firing can you move the throttle and does this change it,

Also another possiblility is if you ignition barrel is on the way out, when it goes to start keep cranking it over on the stater motor and see if it wants to run, ive seem it a few times on different cars

hmmm thats a possibility...but doubt it would throw a code 14 if that was the case

It can be no fuel getting to the rail, check to see if the fuel pump works?

your crank and cam position sensors can also cause it to throw on code 14, i had an isues once i accidentlly damaged the wire to the crank sensor when i was working around the turbos, crank sensor wasn't registering, ignitor doesn't know when to fire, hence 14.

worth a shot if you have fuel, have you looked at the coil packs? are they cracked really badly?

the coil packs have cracks in them but its been a while since ive inspected them. i have had issues with ignition break down under heavy load in the past but i think this is more due to the fowling of the copper plugs and pig rich factory tune.

wouldnt it still fire if the coilpacks were fucked? as opposed to NO fire in ALL cylinders....???

If the cracks weren't bad it would still start and run a bit off. but if you had really bad cracks in all of the plugs, say a couple of mm gaps in all then i would hazard a guess and say they would all earth out and she probably wouldn't start at all
