    Default Search for a 2-control-wire non-PWM ISCV

    Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a 2-control-wire ISCV that isn't PWM? I've not come across one thus far, and my current (although not favoured) thinking is that a small controller may be able to control the 4-control-wire (6-wire) steppers based on an open or close signal on two wires.

    Ideas?

    Cheers,
    Nathan

if it only has 2 wires.. pos and neg.. and isn't PWM, then it will just be open/close?
that sort of thing is used for aircon idle-up valves etc.

or, it has 2 pos wires (2 coils) and body is ground.. but still this is probably PWM

for controlled position, it either has to be PWM or stepper.. for on off, it can just be solenoid?

edit: some falcoons (XF?) have simple 1 signal PWM in a remote housing (with spring as the return). voltage can be used as well, but not as good control...

What I'm thinking is a stepper motor that can be driven by two inputs. 1 for open, one for close. Surely such a thing exists or do they all delegate work to the ECU?

Sorry, I should've been clearer. It can have more than two wires, but just two control wires.

Hehe, I think I've read that a million times because it keeps coming up with searches. It's where I got the idea I might be able to achieve what I want with a control box and the original 6-wire stepper.

EFI Camira have a simple solenoid for a/c idle up - otherwise anything i've seen with 2-3 wires is a PWM solenoid and a stepper motor is min of 4 wires.

fwiw: I think Brett up in townsville was looking at a controller for a unipolar motor that he would use as part of the bypass plumbing on his RZA61

the MS2 ECU has a ISCV driver on the ECU daughter board but i have no idea what smarts it has or how the ECU controls it.

Hmm, okay. I'm at the point where I'm thinking it needs a little control box. Something with power and earth, with whatever output the ISCV needs (i.e. PWM or stepper). It should take in 2 control wires, one makes it step out, one makes it step in. Now, I just need a Wilbo to make it happen.

I think something like this may do the job:

Hmm, had a thought about this on the way to work and when I got here, I popped the bonnet. My EDFC motors for my suspension are steppers as far as I know, and have 3 wires in total. Therefore they must exist, I just need to find one!

Got hold of the dudes from Adaptronic. Apparently Andy said that circuit would be perfectly capable of controlling the factory 6-wire stepper using 2 of the Adaptronic's non-PWM outputs. Winnah!

As long as you step the outputs. The ULN2003 is just an output driver, not a pulse generator. Andy would've known that, so he would've answered correctly, but it won't be a 1 for open, 1 for close... it will be a sequence of turning them both on and off for each step of the stepper.

Yep, I know. I found other circuits to do the reverse, but this one seemed to be what I was after
