im not that big on electrics but i think it has something to do with the verification signal wire on the 4 pin plug, not sure why but im sure thats the root of the problem

Hmm interesting indeed. I suppose there could be a gating circuit to prevent false triggering. Defn something for the "test later" pile
Although I thought Linden's Hilux used the factory ignitor.... hmm will have to ask.

thats better, yeah i think its the werification circuit that stuffs things up, trying to deal with essentially 2 signals at the one time to verify

Sil80 your right ignitor will only work if its connected as a sequential system if you try batch fire it WILL get confused and do all sort of things. (it will even work for a lil bit than die). If its run in seq. it will live forever. Also on one of my 2jz conversions i had to run a -ve (earth) straight of the battery to the metal mount that holds the ignitor since it developed a stange misfire and digital tacho flicker. This fixed everything.
yeah that sounds right, my computer only has 4 channels of outputs for ignition so wiring in sequence is not an option.
there is a link higher up or in another post that talks about earthing the module, you can probly get rid of that direct earth wire if you pull the module apart and clean up the corrosion inside, worked a treat on mine with the same issue on i 1j
cheers

Sorry for answering such an old thread - but this info is gold.
I have wired up a Adaptronic ECU running a Microtech X6 ignitor. Starts and idles - but no tacho. 1Jz in a MA61 - tacho works with OEM ECU and ignitor.
Would I run pin 1 from connector 'A' to an Aux Out pin on the Adaptronic - and then assign that pin's function to Tacho?
There is a IGF pin on the factory ECU - but no corresponding IG- pin. Would the IG- pin even work if using an aftermarket ignitor that isn't using the 4 pin connector?
I can't find where the Tacho signal has been spliced into the MA61 body loom. Otherwise I could just connect that to the Aux out on the Adaptronic.
Thanks
If the tacho worked with the stock ECU and igniter then yes you should be able to use Aux Out 1,2 or 3 configured as a tacho output connected to the igniter plug A pin 1 (you may need an external pull up resistor depending on your tacho booster arrangement).
The Tacho Signal from the 1JZ Igniter (IG-, Plug A, Pin 1) comes out on one of the body loom plugs inside the cabin on the factory loom, is likely that this signal have been on this body plug
FYI: If the tacho worked with the stock ECU then that would mean that you already have a tacho booster installed somewhere, which I would have thought might have been easy to see?

After reading about tacho boosters from the search engine, and saw that some are made by using an old relay - I remembered this:
and
It has four plugs - IN, T, 12v and what looks like an E.
12v is powered from the ECU +12v
IN is joined with a wire that goes to the fan control unit and off into the loom.
T goes off into the engine bay, but appears to be a newer wire. It runs off into a connector near the fuse box.
E looks like the original wire running off into the loom somewhere.
How would I find out if this is a sideshow installed tacho booster?
EDIT: Hooking up the IG- to Coil1 results in a tacho that reads way to low. Using Aux out from the adaptronic says it needs a pull-up.
Cheers
