You may need to check if the threads damaged firstly.
Are the wheel studs topping out(reverse of bottoming out) inside the nut?
Or are they open ended nuts?
Hey Hey,
I have a Ke70 sedan and i put the CSX alloys on the rear as one of the 14's got a gash in the side so i changed both rears to the same size to save the planetary gears in the diff.
So i went for a flog down a local dirt road and on the way home i could hear a rattle and i stopped and checked things and the left wheel was loose, Got the wheel brace out and tightened/checked all wheel nuts.
Drove the 6km home along a few more rough dirt roads and i check the right rear when i got home and they were loose again. Tightened them up again and went for a thrash around the block and they came loose again.
WTF im leaning on this wheel brace with 80 odd kilo's and they are still coming loose.
Any idea's ?

maybe you are pissweak and not tightening them up enough?
otherwise the bolts might be bottoming out slightly, and not allowing the stud to stretch properly.

#YOLO.
Sealed end mag wheel nuts. They tighten up all good and the wheel is tight but they come loose on the right, Only the right side is coming loose but for some reason i wrote left in the 1st post.
Thread is ok and i swapped some of the nuts around they are wind in and out smoothly.
Seems to only work loose after some kicks and a few hard flicks, Only comes loose with the 13's though, With the 14's its all sweet.
Open ended mag wheel nuts ? Do they exist ?Originally Posted by cuzzo
I maybe have some longer nuts in the shed, I will have a looksy tomorrow and see what happens.
ar th enuts the correct design for the wheels? ie tapered seat, or are they meant to go inside?
the rims are probably not loacted on the axle, so the nuts do all that work....

They go inside the hole. These are standard ke70 alloy wheels so they fit the hub pretty well.
I will take some pictures tomorrow.
Hey are the13's steel and the 14's alloy?
You may find that the thread has worn down and with the alloys on you don't get a good bight on the thread.
When your wheel nuts come loose quite often the studs just snap off!
Get new studs and new nuts problem solved i hope.
Cheers Case
13 inch alloys, The 14's in this style were off Corona's and the 13's were Ke70/Ae71
if they are alloys are u running washers? the nuts might be biting too much on the alloy grab some washers and spread the load
pics would help us greatly here

the 14 inch corona alloys require a particular type of nut that has a free turning but captive washer pressed into them. are u using these nuts ?Originally Posted by too_quick
they are factory toyota nuts found on coronas with alloys and also ma61's

These nuts have the washers on them.
open ended bnuts should be available from agood wheel shop - I use them on my JZA80, one set for road use, another set for track use
Pictures.
This is what was on the rear.
