anyone????
Took off this ct26 off my mz21;
Bought this replacement;
5x2 fins vs 8x2 fins on the compressor wheel. All other ct26's ive looked at have had 5x2 fins on the comp wheel.
Thoughts?

What does a celica CT26 look like? Because it doesn't look as though the cover has been machined out at all.
heres one from a 165
and heres one from a mr2/185

Kedderz all the ones i've seen have 5 blades
I've got a 2nd hand highflow in the garage (can't disconnect the dodgy oil feed line off the current turbo to get it out of the car hahahaha)
I'll have a look and see what that has. But i'd be inclined to vote aftermarket. maybe it was a "to stock specification" rebuild, and that's what they had in the parts bin at the time
as jimmmayyy said, the front housing doesn't look machined
also, that one off the z20 is nasty looking
hate the oil feed and return lines in these, its a bitch!
Im definately leaning towars aftermarket as all the ones ive seen have also been 5 for stock then 6 for high flow.

Measure the ID of both and see if there's a difference. But as others have said, just looks like an almost stock replacement (i.e. what they had in there parts bin).

good tip ill do that tonight.
Will the fact it has 8 fins rather than 5 affect performance, either positive or negatively?

Yes it will. Assuming the exducer of the Compressor wheel on both is the same, the extra fins, to a point, will generally flow more for the same size ID and OD comp wheels (You really need an expert who can identify that comp wheel to then look at both Compressor maps). The problem being using it on the same A/R Compressor cover really messes up its output temps..... If you can get an original Comp wheel back on it, that would be the easiest option.Originally Posted by Kedderz
But realistically, if you want to mess around with High-flowing the stock Turbo, I'ld suggest you get a reasonably better comp wheel to make it worth the effort, not one which at best going is to match the stock Turbo HP output.

That damaged wheel looks pretty shit tho , Ive used them with a few chips but thats a bit worse. I just checked the 4 i have and there all 5x2 wheels. If you need another i have many.
Dave
never seen the 8x2 blade wheel in the first pic so im not sure what its off but the 2 turbos with the 6x2 blades are early garrett wheels of the t04 family but without exact measurements i couldnt tell you what they are from. the 165 highflow looks like a 54mm inducer and the 185 looks to have a 57mm inducer probly to4e but not sure.

Does having more fins mean it will spool earlier or later due to the increased mass of the comp wheel?

Definitely spool later.![]()

depends on the exact aerodynamics of the wheel to be honest.Originally Posted by Kedderz
ok so yes it has increased mass according to the number of fins but it could also be made better and actualy weigh less due to having thinner fins, who knows? if it is infact heavier then it will generally respond slower due to a larger moment of inertia.
what is going to grab more air initially? 5 fins with a large spacing for air to creep out or 8 with a closer spacing to hold the air in better?what does the exducer look like? is it swept back and rolled forward at the tip to throw the air better?
has the turbine side been moddified?
very trivial Q's indeed which could generally be summed up with "a 20yr old design aint much chop these days and if you want the best performance available buy a garrett BB turbo".
it should be fairly similar in performance to a CT26 or atleast within 10% or so iin regards to airflow numers and boost threshold but without seeing maps for it or exactly what was done to the turbo i can't be sure.
