You may be experiencing the same problem as the ae86 guys do when they convert from a distributer set up to coils when they convert from 4age to 4agze.
The problem exists due to the dizzy sending a single pulse signal to the tacho and the coils sending a double pulse signal. The reverse could be occurring in your case considering you've gone from coil pack to distributer ignition setups.
I had to mod the small board that runs the needle. The one that converts from electrical to mechanical signal behind the tacho. I had to change 2 resistors and one capacitor to ones with different resistence.
I dont know what the changes top yours would be though.
