Hoping someone can help me work this out.
My Supra started stalling about a week ago. Always while I was sitting at traffic lights. Only happened 3 times in a week. Each time I just turned the key, started it again and away I went.
Yesterday I was having a look for vacuum leaks etc. Couldn't find any so decided to check the timing while I had the bonnet up. Not sure if all Toyota's are the same but in mine you have to remove one of the vacuum lines from the distributor and plug the line. Did that, checked the timing then I pulled the plug to put the line back on and the car just died before I could get the line back on the distributor. Has never done that before. When you pull the plug it usually reduces the idle a few 100 revs but never has it stalled. Took a while to get it going again but eventually it started and away I went.
Today I was doing a bit of tightening of the vacuum lines, checking manifolds were tight etc and I did at one stage take off the vacuum line to the distributor again.
Since I did all this today the car will start but won't idle at all.
I don't know a lot about efi. It seems like it uses whatever fuel is available in the rail or wherever it's available from and then doesn't get any more to keep it running. Once it stalls, if I try to start it straight away it won't start. If I wait a a few seconds it'll start but then stall again.
I'm a bit lost as to what it can and any help would be appreciated,
Trevor
Fixed. Turns out the solenoid resistor was unplugged. Not sure what the solenoid resistor does, not sure how or when it became unplugged, but..................
