Cool, nice work adsport!
Do you know, of the top of your head, which gearboxes came standard in what cars?
For example, AE101 Levin 4A-FE, S/T 4A-GE, and AE111 B/T 4A-GE Levin etc?
Cheers,
Timbo
some people have been curious about this for a whle and ive been in a position where i can document side by side the physical difference of these common 4ag transverse mounted gearboxes , most importantly being the weight so here it goes :
boxes side by side, C52 on left E58 on right
C52 front on
E58 front on
C52 top view
E58 top view
C52 weight
E58 weight

good stuff adz, though i would of thought after lugging both box's around the e58 would of been heavier. (maybe i'm just getting weak!) hahaaaa.
I thought the exact same thing, I know a C52 is really easy to bench press into place, but I thought I could never do an E series..Originally Posted by feral4mr2

are they both dry weights?
I notice a fair amount of oil around the E58.
very good information none the less.![]()

actually thats a very valid point , the E58 had been on its side for a long time and the oil that came out was very minimal. if anything i think the C52 will be full of oil ! the wet ground is 99% due to my garage being semi flooded just moments before due to a mass amount of rain during the dayOriginally Posted by MR22ZZ

AE82 and AE92/3 SX / GTi models with the 4A-G come with C52
whereas the E58 is from anything GZE powered... AW11 supercharged came mostly with auto boxes..
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
My ae92 gze had a E52.
They wouldn't be dry weights would they? I weighed my C52 and it came up around 25 kg.

im thinking that the C52 is still full of oil , when it was removed (i didnt take it out) the input shafts werent removed but i do think its pretty close, 25kg seems pretty light ?
the AW11 supercharged only came with E51 as a manual. autos are rare.
doh! where is the delete post button?

this is a long time coming for your repeated rubbish psuedo advice, you tend to dish out a non-stop stream of crap that is almost always wrong and talking out your arse just like this comment.Originally Posted by Vios-GT_07
neg rep for you.
aw11 (sc units) came with e51 boxes, n/as came with c50 or c52 depending on age. (all in manual flavour) autos existed but are far far from common.
ae92 gze vehicles early ones came with e52 and some of the later ones those with small port enignes tended to get e58 same as the ae101 gze
Wow those weight differences are much less than I assumed!! Really puts an end to the conversation on if the weight saving is worth the effort of swapping gearboxes in an AW11 SC.
Good work Adz!

if youve got an na there is no good reason to upgrade tot he e box. they dont make enough torque to break a c box, the ratios arnt as good for na and are no where near as nice to drive.. even a fresh one.
