what ecu are you using?
if using aftermarket u will not need to use the original one.
hi guys, have done a bit of research, and havent found much info. i am having trouble finding the stock 3t ignitor, but i was thinking about the 5m ignitor it looks like the same ignition system, so was wondering:
if a 5m ignitor will do the job, with or without modification.
or are there any other options i havent considered.
cheers guys.

stock ecu. cheers.
79GT,
I have a stock ignitor you can buy off me, I am looking for $60 plus postage, your only other option really is to drive one coil only with a 22rte ignitor, or potentially a nissan CA20 ignitor which is also dual changle for a twin spark, but I am unsure of the ignitor (whether it is for a hall sensor or reluctance and whether it is controlled by the nissan ECU).
PM me if you are intrested in the ignitor.
cheers mate, let me have a look at some funds...and will get back to ya.
Just a hint , i wouldnt be looking at funds for such a rare igniter , Buy it now , they are only getting older and rarer.
Dave
just a tip, the bosch units work perfectly fine, ive got a pair in my car and im pretty sure you can buy them brand new.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.
RIP, where ever you are :- 1974 celica, 3tgte and 186.5hp at 6500rpm
I forgot to mention I have also used two TP magna ignitors and this has worked fine also. This requires spilting the VR sensor signal across two ignitors, probably not ideal but it work fine. Mounted on a large heat sink.
you can buy the ignitors brand new from bosch can you. that is awesome.
i am assuming you mean the ignitor not just the coil. you know the price..Jamie
Ok,
Some more info I was at work before and busy, I have done this and I think it is similar to lil crash suggestion. This will cost you about $30
Get two ignitors, these could be bosch???(don't know which ones), the mistsubish magna(TP), or 5M/22re if your keen(The 5M/22re ones will not need heatsinking). It should be noted, I have only done this with the magna ones.
Most of these ignitors require +ve, earth (usally through the body of the ignitor) dizzy signal (two wires reluctor style). And a -ve to the coil.
Mount the ignitors onto a heat sink and bolt to the body and your done.
A couple of notes. It is near impossible to know which way to wire the two wires between the dizzy and the ignitor without a CRO. I suggest wire it one way and then try to rev it, if you find your engine won't go past 2500-3500 rpm you have it wrong try the other way (you may need to rephase your dizzy also).
Now this can be done for under $30 if you get the ignitors cheap at u pull it (they charge me $5 each).
Alternatively take a look at the CA20 engine I spoke about earlier, this is a twin spark nissan engine i am fairly sure I used this ignitor at some stage with some success. It can easily be found in a 1985-1990 nissan pintara(same shape as an R31 skyline) which are a dime a dozen. As I have run this before I am almost sure it interfaces with a reluctance sensor. The only thing I am not sure about with this module is if timing is controled through the ecu (easy to tell, if the dizzy has vaccum advance then its all good). In my opinon this would be the one to try. This module still need to be mounted on a heat sink.
I have experienced in the past incompatibility between sensor and ignition module as The Witzl has also with the delco(camira) module and the megasquirt ECU. However I have used the delco module with a delco ecu successfully.
Your other option is by the ignitor off meI know they are rare, and I have reservations in selling it as I may again need it in the future hence I am not giving it away.
Other option single spark, I have herd of people running their 3tgteu on single spark with out any implication to power, I can't prove this.
As a rule of thumb I use the same coils that the ignitor originaly used. With these types of ignitors they are setup with a constant dwell which is matched to a coils dwell. If you get magna ignitors use magna coils.
I think I have told you every thing I can about using different ignitors, any questions feel free
Roger
Hey man,
A Bosch BIM024 module can be used for reluctor dizzy's. More info here, http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24609

7M-GTE MX73,
Yep the bosch module should work as I have described, the difference being that you have two coils to drive therfore you need two ignitors being driven of the one sensor.
Roger
Yup, shoulda mentioned in my post to use two modules![]()

i have found a mate who has two 5m ignitors laying around, so am gonna get my car started. whoo. recomended coil to use would be a 5m coil....times 2 that is.
ps. just to confirm i split the two wires from the dizzy (hence making 4 wires from the dizzy, with one of each going to each ignitors...seems stupid but want to make sure i am onto it. cheers.
Jamie
Thats right. I just grabed the ignitor you ar talking about. Yellow wire is not needed, black wire to coil -ve, pink and red go to the- +dizzy wires which are split, and brown to coil positive, earth through body. I am color blind so it may not be exact (brown could be green). Do this for both coils and you should be firing.Originally Posted by 79GT
