    Default 4age gearing for freeway

Anybody give me a solution to poor Freeway driving for my Toyota corolla which has standard 4age / 5 speed box. Is there a better suited box that has a better final ratio for the freeway.

Define 'poor highway driving'?? Stick to the back roads?

Seriously though, without any detail on what model car and/or gearbox i can only say if you're after a taller top gear, you can't do too much about it.

There are a couple of aftermarket options for final gears, TRD, quaife? IIRC, both the TRD ratios are shorter... Don't think you've got much choice. And giving it tall gearing would probably make it a dog around town.

Edit: I'm doubling checking my comment about C-series top gear ratios, i'm pretty certain but i'd feel better if i confirm...

    Edit2: Well, don't i stand corrected!

Larger rolling diameter Just disregard the negatives that option will give you

As noted, go too tall and the 1.6 will struggle to maintain it's speed. They are no torque monster.

    Poor freeway driving?

Just because it revs a little high doesn't mean it's not efficient, or is bad at driving on a freeway. If it revved much lower the engine wouldn't be making enough torque to keep you moving at that speed

Don't run a cannon or stupidly sized exhaust and it shouldn't bother you.

what model corolla is it stan? fwd or rear wheel drive?

ill mimick what the others have said.. a cruising speed of around 3000-3500 on the highway really seems to suit bigport ae82's.. which is how its geared from the factory anyways. thye use SFA fuel at that range, and if it was much lower (like 2800rpm or lower) i think the engine would struggle a bit on inclines..

ps your weak, that 4age wants to live at 6000rpm+

    Ditto,

My ae82 sits at 3500rpm and i can get just over 700km to the tank on highway driving and 550km around town. Beats my shitty 4k and 4.3 diff and 450km to the tank on the highway.

I'm pretty sure all aus delivered 4AGE powered machines ran a 4.3 final drive.

Look for a AE112 box if you want the same set of gears with a 4.06 final drive.

I've got one beside my 20v and it still surges along nicely at the national limit when you put your foot down, but I'm only pushing a Starlet around, not a full weight Corolla.

    A C52 with 4.06 gives me bang on 3000rpm.

    A chart I made up
The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
