Can I see yours ……… 4AGTE Turbo Manifold FWD. Hi all, the need for more power bug has BITTEN ME ! So I decided to build a 4AGTE after months of looking and reading I need to see what other people have made for their Turbo Manifold in there front wheel drive Corolla (I have a SX seca AE90) or does a company make them.

1/ what did you make it from.
2/ any ideas or tips to make a manifold better.

So could you be kind enough to give me links or can you show them please.

You have a great forum that you have got going here……. Keep up the good work guys and gals.

    Thanks

I'm in the middle of designing a FWD turbo manifold for an AE92 levin, to suit a subaru TD04L turbo in a high mounted position. This setup would also work on the Aus delivered AE92/93 with 4age. The pic below doesn't have a ton of clearance to the distributor, but it does fit with a 2.5" dump pipe.

I'm designing the setup in solidworks while mocking it up on a bench with a smallport head and the turbo in place. Challenges have been getting clearance to the distributor, stock radiator and thermofan, oil filter, front engine mount and wastegate actuator to bonnet clearance. Also making sure there will be adequate access to the nuts to hold the manifold to the head and also for the TIG torch to be able to get in and weld up the runners to the flanges and the collector merges.

I want to have a merge collector in the manifold so basically have placed the head flange and turbo inlet flange in 3D space and built the manifold around that with std wall carbon steel pipe bends (~$4 ea from most steel supply places). There's currently a mix of long and short radius bends, I plan to get rid of the short radius bends from the design before I put it into metal.

I'll also be making two manifolds, one from 32nb pipe and the other from 25nb, just to see the performance difference between the two. The exhaust ports on my 4ag head are ~30.7mm, the 25nb pipe has a ~27mm inside diameter and the 32nb pipe has a ~35mm inside diameter. Will be interesting to see the spool times between the 25nb manifold and the 32nb manifold. The 25nb manifold will be ported at the head flange to be slightly larger than the exhaust ports on the head.

jason thats a great looking setup.
theory is the 25nb pipe should spool faster - the narrower the pipe dia the higher the velocity (hence faster spooling). theory anyway. practice may work out differently (think of phenolic spacers on carbies - on a flowbench they don't appear to do anything but in real life make quite a difference)

Nice 3d cad work, that is a great way of getting your ideas across.

A log type manifold could be easier and more compact if your not chasing the absolute ultimate power out of this setup.

    Hi Jason,

I am interest in you CAD manifold, I have started to draw one up as well but with my new job I have not got much time (all that I have done is the part that bolts up against the head).

I can send you the DXF file from AutoCAD (from that file you should be able to import it into solidworks) if you want as I have designed the part that bolts up against the head so there is not a lot of exhaust manifold in contact with the head (much like the 100kws factory headers, to help keep the radiating heat temperature down and away from the head).

I started with an imported 4AGZE, have the DLI ignition set up on this motor and have the Bigport head. From here the exhaust ports have been ported / polished and flowed (they are now 32.5mm exhaust ports). Will be running a remote oil filter to help out with the clearance but then there are the things like you mentioned, radiator, thermofan and the engine mount.

I am not at all interested in the “Log style manifold” as I too want a “merge collector style manifold” that can be bolted up to a 3” dump pipe.

As for what brand/type of turbo I am still shopping around for a turbo as I want boost to start somewhere around 2500 rpm, run up to 25psi boost, with a max rpm of 8500 and make around 250kws at the wheels. But I have not even started looking into turbo specs yet ….. maybe I am dreaming “is there a turbo that can do that?” ….. like I said, I really need to find some time and research the market to see what is out there.

    Thanks

change the 2500rpm to 3500rpm and a GT2871r 56trim would fit the bill to a tea.

or change all other requests and run a 2860 or similar and have boost by 2500, your call.

    cheers
    linden

    Ps jason, nice design.
if you swapped no3 and no4 runners entry to the collector you may get it flowing abit nicer and aviod the SR bends. other than that it should work out nicely.

Talasas has recently done a 4AGTE conversion in his AE93, try him for ideas also. There has been some repworthy posts so far, but the more info you can get before you start, the better.

ahhh yeah a log is not a good choice if chasing 250kw in a FWD, didnt mention it was a full drag car.
