hey guys
went for a wheel alignment today and was told they cant do it due to worn steering rack bushes. are mx83 ones identical to the gx81?
have tried the following places saying i had a "1989 mx83 cressida" and wanted steering rack bushes. they all reckon they dont have a listing.
Big rock toyota, pedders, wa suspensions
the bushes im after are the two bushes which fit over the steering rack and bolt to the crossmember. do they call it a different name? maybe that is why they cant find a listing?
cheers
ps. if anyone has an EPC could you please look it up and see if you can get some part numbers and also a "print screen" of the schematic of the parts

And you can still get genuine MX83 ones through Toyota. Ordered some through work last week.

yep
ordered some from city toyota, the parts guy Lee was very helpful. Highly reccomend him. Not going to bother with big rock toyota, even though it is close to my house. They just werent interested in helping.
are u sure thats the ones they meant, they may have been referring to the ones on the inner tie rods

If the steering rack itself moves they can't align it properly.

jebus the bushes would have to be pretty much missing for the rack to move

Nope, just a little bit disintergrated and she'll move.
The rack is under a tremendous amount of force when you turn the wheel.

well shows you how much i knew about it.
just replaced mine yesterday, the round one looked pretty good but the wonky looking one was pretty worn with a lot of chaffing in it.
funny thing is when i was talking to the tech guy at superpro, he said those bushes would be very easy to make up in poly, but after looking at it maybe we were talking about different bushings, or maybe he doesnt know about the wonky shaped one.

Yep, if the bush's are fucked the whole rack will move side to side everything you turn. Making the steering wheel change position even when you are going stright... I know mines doing it atm![]()

do i need to remove the power steering lines (it might be a steering dampener) to change the bushes? cant see there being much movement in the rack when it has hydraulic hard lines bolted to it.
cheers
Go take a closer look, with a torch.

decided i wouldnt have been able to change the bushes and get a wheel alignment before 4pm on friday so left it until i got back from my holiday (today)
is the answer more apparent than i can see?
