    Default RT 142 manual gear box

    Hey guys,
    i was wondering if any one out there could tell me any thing
    about a RT 142 corona gear box. eg hp strength. if any other toyotas use the same
    gbox housing or internals, part no. any thing would be a great help

    Box is usaly a W55..
    W55 :- SA63 celica (rear shifter poz'y)
    W55 :- RA65 celica (forward shifter poz'y)
    W57 RA60 celica
    W58 MA61 supra

    as for the hp = 200 - 300...

    Yep as above it's a W5x box with an alloy sandwich plate, the same as used by most RWD Toyota's in the early-mid 80's. They're pretty strong but won't last long behind a torquey engine (my 2JZ munted a couple of them rather quickly).

    RT 142,s have a W58 from the factory with a alloy sandwich plate , i have confirmed this many many times now as i wrecked many of them years ago.

    I have a rt142 advanti manual and was told that it's a w55?

    I would love to know what type it really is now?

    Look at the build plate (rivetted on the firewall) if you want to know what the transmission is.

    Most of (95%) the aussie assembled cars dont have the the ID plate with the info on it . They are a W58 ,read my first post, Well all the victorian ones are.

    the car is gone it was sent to the wreckers last week.
    Is there any marking's on the box itself that you can identify it by.

    No, you can only tell the difference by the ratios.

    Any idea how many teeth should be on each gear? I have one in bits on the floor at home- figured it was just another W55...
