Default Reusing ARP head studs on 4AGE.

    Hey Hey,

I'm rebuilding the bottom end on my 4AGE now. The ARP head studs are only 4000 - 5000km old so can i reuse them, They cost me $220 so the f**king things better be reusable.

what you should do it measure there length new and then everytime you resuse them to see were there at.

    but yeh they are reuseable

Reusable? Yes, just like the stock bolts and the measurements in the factory manual.

'4000 - 5000km old' is less interesting then how many times they've been torqued

    des
    the short ones are 108mm
    the long ones are 127mm
they are brand new about to be installed
i can't see how the length would decrease by installing them tho

if you want to check for bolt stretch, you need to check each individual bolt.. each one is different anyway..

the bolts get longer (elastically) when you install them, but you want to check for plastic deformation, either of the threads, or of the main shank of the bolt... so maybe you need to check from a certain thread at one end to a certain thread at other end? i'm nto familiar with which methods are used for engine studs.

i don7t think you really need to worry abotu stretch of the ARP's for head bolts.. rod bolts maybe.. but head bolts should be ok.. ish..

They are definately re-useable, just make sure you use the specified thread lubricant for re-assembly.

Yep, they even specify a different torque setting if you use a monograde oil instead of their lubricant, so its properties must be pretty special

i know there's a few ford or maybe holden head studs that aren't re-useable because they are actually designed to stretch. but that has no relevance to your question
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

If I remember correctly, the 4AGE ones are a single torque spec, and constant shank diameter, so 99% sure they aren't Torque To Yield

the ARP head studs tighten in the block hand tight and the nuts tighten to 60 ft/lb
