Buy the Toyota SST which looks vaguely like this:

It goes over the end of the filter and just screws off.

Very useful, and no more screwing around, its all i use now.

Edit: Couple of quick notes, use proper Toyota filters, they are made of slightly thicker steel and dont deform as much. Plus they actually fit the bloody oil filter wrench properly.
so does that mean that you wouldnt be able to use a aftermarket filter such as ryco or valvoline or would it just not have a tight fit in the wrench as the genuine

Despite it being a specified standard for the oil filters it doesnt seem that the aftermarket ones follow the standard. The Ryco one i had on my 7M was a different pattern, while the Valvoline one that came on a 4AGE i bought was too small (about 5-10mm smaller OD for the entire filter).

A 3 prong one costs about 20 dollars from most auto parts stores, as if buy some sst that only works with 1 type of filter.

Because the 3 prong ones are crap, i have one for servicing things other than the Toyotas and it constantly slips on the filter.

when you only use that particular size of filter why do you need anything else?
