sounds like BHG. ouch dude.
Hey guys,
bought a 1990 GT4 monday night, and absolutely love it. Only thing is theres white smoke coming from the exhaust, which was not noticeable when testing it on saturday, its gotten progressively worse over the last couple of days. Me and my mate think its the turbo, and the smoke doesn't smell like oil, although it is draining a lot of it.... The car feels fine, its only the visual smoke thats not looking good. Just wanted to get confirmation that it is the turbo, and if driving it will cause any damage to anything other than the turbo (as long as i keep an eye on the oil level).
(btw, long time reader just never posted)
Thanks guys and gals.
sounds like BHG. ouch dude.
that or the turbo like you said... is it worse when cold or hot?

No worse when hot or cold, my friend is sure its the turbo, and its burning the oil. checked for signs of a blown HG but looks ok. getting the turbo replaced next week hope it does the trick.
Also the guy before me had a boost controller and boosted pretty high, most likely the cause of the problem. i've since removed the controller.
mines the same issue.. turbo was boosted to 19 psi for the past 2 years. now it will blow for abit once the engine is warm then will disappear after 1 minute of driving.
ive now turned off the boost controller and only running 7psi. remember the ct26 is water + oil cooled so the smoke could be either
Yeah I spoke to my mate again and he said its most likely the seals on the turbo that have gone, so thats where the leak is causing the smoke. I'll let you guys know what happens when we replace the turbo and give it a good flush, clean and service =)
Thanks for the replies.
