Question Should I put a drain hole here?

Having celica's means I'm always on the lookout for rust, for example, I found some in the aristo boot so I sanded, prepsol'd, masked, and painted it up with a bit of coldgal (it's under the rubber)

Then after washing the rear of the car I found water collected here pretty well

The tube is the fuel filler overflow. There's no drainage here and this is a prime rust location on the celicas. It wasn't until my third celica that I saw any factory metal in this location
On the Aristo it's pretty well gummed up, but you can see the high tide mark where it has had water here before.

Would there be any point drilling a drainage hole here and coldgall'ing it up? Thoughts?

You really want drain holes at the lowest possible point of water accumulation.... If you suspect the Factory internal coating won't hold out for much longer (ie enough for evaporation to do its job), then definitely put in a drain hole, but also be prepared to then coat it really well on both sides with some quality etch primer and a top coat, with possibly some clear on top just to be super safe.

Then just keep an eye on it and see how its holding out, especially if you don't haven't got good access from the inside to make sure you've done a good job of it.

    Cool abently thanks

Well I think it will hold up okay, and now I know it is how it is I can keep an eye on it. If i ever filled it up somehow, I could remove the top of the fuel overflow to drain most of it.

Incidentally the other side, which is much more inaccessible, has a drain grommet!

lol. Yeah just keep an eye on it during the winter periods and you'll catch it early if it does indeed start to rust.
