should the shocks be under some compression to get the correct tower height?

just seems awfully high to me... but having not seen the back of an bare MA70, i'm only guessing.

btw: are you going to put a 4 or 6 point cage in? if so, connecting the tops of the braces to it (e.g. take the rear legs down to a pipe that sits over the tower) will further assist in tower strength when you land heavily on the rear.

Thats a really good point! I'd think you should be figuring in thecompression from the weight of the car other wise you could be just bottoming out when you drop it...

EDIT: I'd offer to do this but I dont have my car atm, and I have coil overs, but maybe a A70 owner could slid under there car while its sitting onthe ground and measure the compressed height of the spring and shock? I realise that the A60 is lighter btu ut will give you a really good starting point.

The A70 shocks are fully compressed and the wheels jacked up to the lip of the wheel arch, which you can see has been cut as high as I dare. the tyre is 30mm from hitting the lip as this will be the allowance for the bump stop rubber to compress.

If I continue with these shocks you can see the towers would be lower than the back seat and about level with the bottom of the side glass. The pipe bracing will go tower to tower then V down to a central spot on the floor behind the seat.
The ONLY competition this car will go into is "show & shine".
My aim is to have style with substance, I'll leave ultimate performance to others.

ah... so the MA70 rear struts are stupidly tall things then... helps to explain why we thought Blake's white MA70 had a lift kit in it when he put in new springs - suspension mount points (and car weight) must put the spring/shocks under significant compression.

    is looking impressive.

Some more pics for those who thought I'd given up, I have been busy earning Toyota $$$

These towers are 20mm higer than what they would be in the donor car effectivley lowering the car plus I have 40mm lowered springs, I'll soon see how it sits.

They are currently selling some on eBay but you can search for that.
Someone else posted these details a while ago but I can't remember who. Please speak up so you can take some of the credit.

great work - now that you've got the back of the rear seat in the 1st pic, the towers don't look so tall.

btw: the pink, spotted sheet is a homely touch
