Default ...so i did a headgasket 4AFC poo = dead

OK so it died..........at least it died at the bottom of my driveway - got me home from work - what a star. Nett result = 1 x dead AE92, needless to say I've spent a few bucks on this thing, new suspension, new brakes, new bushes, new new new. Grrrr.

    So now what?
The thing never ran right with that shitty carby........I've a crapload of 100kw 4AGE stuff i reckon i might have enough to even convert it too inlcuding ae92 sx 4age loom ect ect
Problem is i still gotta get a reco head done.

    Then again i can get a 4age 20v and loom for $1500.
Then there is all the shit that goes with a conversion including wiring crap
Thing is i'd still want to do a VRS kit ect thru it - to do a head gasket on a motor where the head is still OK should you still get it machined before fitting a new HG (due to alloy)?

Or do I just bin the lot and buy an AE92 already 100kw (or 20v) but then maybe end up with the same problem in a few months time?

    Thoughts/comments all welcome.

You dont have to machine it if its within spec. Get a straight edge and feeler gauge. The out of spec limit I believe is 0.0020" (0.0508mm).

BTW, I dont know what a 4AFC is, did you mean SAFC?

Ditch the ancient technology of carbs and go EFI. It shouldn't be hard to wire in an AE92 harness and ECU along with an EFI fuel pump.

If you have the time and money go the ae92 4age.

If not get the machining done and then wack it back together. It shouldnt cost more than $500 to get a head job if at all needed.

I dont know about NZ/AUS prices, but here in the us $500 would get you ported and polished, 5 angle valve job, cumbustion chamber poloshing, and a decked surface.

Just a planed head should only cost around $50-75.

if its your everyday car just put a head gasket in it and leave it alone and get that carby fixed.
a little bit more power wont cut it so just leave it.
just check if everything is straight
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

It's a 1.6 L engine not unlike most 4A engines, has an F series Twin Cam head and "C" (usually reserved for Californian Emissions type) denotes carby and not EFI in the casual Toyota speak. Probably better known as "4A-F" in the States because they like to chop off the "E" or "C".

    i pulled teh head
    pics to come
aside from the massive amounts of corrosion, cyl 3 is the problem - the valves are a wierd color - the others on the inlet are nice and white - plugs are clean ect too.
cyl3 appears to have corrosion or something on the valves really wierd
looking inside the bores though nice and clean and goodly - can still see the cross hatch marks after 351000km...

What would happen if you bolted a 100kw head onto that block?

Do it for shit and giggles? Then if it works??? WIN?

    remember

i already kinda have one too.....actually two of

plus i've got a couple of 100kw motor complete looms with all the shits and bits needed to make it happen.......from an ae92......so its not like it would be an overly hard gig either.

just i need it to remain auto bro. don't get me wrong - love manual - just not in shit traffic after 16 hours of hell at work.

If it's gonna stay auto, I say ditch the 4age idea unless you like making big enough gaps to wind out the 4age to get any benefit. Under 4-5k a 4afc is gonna be nicer in traffic.

If you really want to spend some bucks, do a 7afe auto, I reckon would be a sweet daily. Torque really does wonders for slushers.
