Default 1GGZE into RT132 help needed

    Hi,
I'm new to this and also getting old so please be patient with me. I am in the process of my first major conversion (only other one was 4K into Suzuki Sierra), and have a few issues to sort out. Don't laugh, the Corona is in A1 condition, and I happen to like the Liftback model. With a 1GGZE in it i know it will have ample oomph for someone my age!
So far i have the engine installed and had it running. Starts easy, idles perfectly, revs OK,
but does blow smoke intermittently, but that's not my biggest concern at the moment.

I have been following the wiring diagram provided by 'Bullfrog"

    Number 1 is :
I have problems with the auto not sensing when to change. It seems to want to start off in whatever gear the selector is in and not low gear. The donor car was an Avanti (Chaser) with all the bells and whistles. It had an Analogue speedo, and i believe there is a speed sensor in the dash (SP1) and one in the transmission (SP2). Now how do i go with the Corona speedo not having a sensor? SP2 is connected but SP1 is not. Has it something to do with the speed limiter? Do i need to connect SP1? If so, where?

    Number 2:
OD2 wire, No 14 in Plug 'R' on ECU. Where does it go? Is Overdrive Switchable On/Off ?
Or is it engaged automatically at all times by transmission?

    Number 3:
What is auto plug "G' for (g1,g2,g3,g4) ? Was it Cruise Control? Does anything need to be done with these wires?

    Number 4:
Where do wires 14 and 21 in plug 'Q' on ECU go? They are marked as pattern select switch on wiring diagram, but it doesn't show where they go.

I will admit that i am a bit slow on picking up some of this stuff, but i am having a great time learning! I went for the Auto thinking it would be easier , now wish i had a manual transmission!
Yes, i have searched for the answers, but i can't seem to find them.
Any constructive comments would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

not 100% sure but i think the earlier cars had a seperate auto ecu to control soleniods and such. gz20 and mz20 soarers do so i would assume that chaser's have the same.

ill see what i can find and let you know.

welcome to the forums by the way.

    cheers

ps just looked at your other posts, it is a resistor of some sort but could be for a multitude of things, not sure what it was originaly connected to.

    Gearbox ECU:
    (Electronic Transmission Control)
1G-GTEU Toyota (Aisin) 89530-24270 (ink stamp: 7F26 - serial number or ROM version?)
    connectors: 24pin

that was in one of bretts threads but im not sure on wiring one up.

have you still got the halfcut handy or has it been binned?

if its still around check behind the kick panels or centre console and you may find it.

sorry i couldn't be of more help.

    cheers

    Q:- is this motor a gen1, 2, or 3 1G-GZE..???

If it's a gen 3 then i have a ECT that i will not be useing... & some wires... i'm stripping the auto from my GZE soon as i'm useing a manual box..

As for wireing diagrams i've got a few, but i've not done this conversion yet...

    cheers

    Thanks,
I've still got the cut so i'll have a look for a separate control box later today, but i have the feeling it's in with the ECU. Could be wrong!

Have found that the resistor in old post was for fuel pump.Thanks.

The motor is a Gen3. Built 1988. Any diagrams that show anything to do with the auto would be good.
Need to find out more about the Speed Sensors, Overdrive Switch(if Fitted??) plus probably a few more things.

Does anyone know if the Cruise Control would have had wires going to the transmission? I removed some vacuum bits and pieces from the engine and a cable going to the accellerator pedal, but can't remember if and where any wires might have gone to.
I'm not using the Cruise Control.

I think it's the same auto as in MX83 Cressida, so maybe someone with info on them can help.
    Thanks.

ECT is a small box in the left hand kick panel..
You should not need the speed sensor..

you WILL need the speed sensor in order to get the ETC to work properly otherwise how would it know what gear it should be in for the required speed/rpms.

cruise should have its own ecu but if your not running it dont worry about finding it.

there should be 2 speed sensors the ETC will use one is in the front of the box and one in the extension housing (should be on the left hand side)

O/D switch should be on the shifter and all this does is tell the ETC to cut power to the 2 soleniods in the box.

    cheers

    Thanks for the info.
Now before i worry about the speed sensor...i will need to connect the ECT first.
I think i've found it...i had discarded it thinking it was only to do with the Cruise Control !!
It's a Green Plastic box with 2 plugs (about 20 wires) and looks like a computer inside.
Tried to post a photo but couldn't get it to work. ( By the way...How do you get photos to come up directly in a post??)
    Anyway i am learning s l o w l y what all the bits are called!
( It does have Speed CONTROL written on it !)
All the wires are cut, so it will take me a few days to sort out as much as i can...then i'll be back calling for help again.
    Really appreciate all the help...Thanks.

speed control would normally mean its the cruise ecu but without seeing it im not 100% sure.

GA61XX, can you post a pic of the ETC as ive never bothered paying much attention to them but need to get one as im sick of driving the auto thru the gears with the shifter.

    cheers

PS does the engine ecu have S1,S2 and S3 etched into the board where the pins come thru? if so maybe these aren't connected like they should be.

As for posting pic's .. you need a pic' host... eg. photobucket .. join.. upload pic's & then use the links to post...

    The ECT i have is from a gen3 1G-GZE... (GS131)..

    Toyota part number # 89530-30491

Oh, and the shift lever was missing from the cut so i am in the dark with the O/D Switch.

Well done Glenno, and, yes, welcome to the ToyMods forum. I'd say you've come to the right place and should be able to get to the end of your project with all our combined help. I know I could never have done my 1GGZE conversion without this help.

No offence to Bullfrog, who also helped me greatly, but his diagrams have some crucial bits missing. I have a set of schematics that were modified from my project (which was a manual + 1G > RN85 Hilux). These deal mainly with wiring up the supercharger so if you need help in that area let me know.

Meanwhile I'll look through your other posts and see what I can find (if your Qs haven't already been answered, and so far, you're doing well ).

    Good luck with your conversion.

For photos, get a Photobucket account. You can upload all your photos there and then automatically generate the code to insert these photos in your posts.

    [Which I now see you've done! ]

    Cheers,

    Peter

Thanks for all the welcomes...i wasn't expecting such a friendly bunch
And to be referred to as a Junior at my age makes me feel really good!
However all this EFI, ECU,ECT, AFM,COR, etc, etc, gets me a little crossed up at times. Currently drive 1999 Hilux 4x4 with 2.7 and wife has 1993 V6 Vienta Touring Series, but haven't had to work on either yet.
But, the RT132 is still my favourite and can't wait to get it on the road.
If i can get it finished, who knows what might happen to the old RA23 up in the back shed?
It certainly looks like i'm on the right track with the knowledge available here!
    Thanks,
    Glen

Can anyone tell me whether the box in the pic above marked 'Speed Control' is just for the cruise control operation or do i need it for the ECT?
Also my 1ggze is a gen3 with grey plugs so I think the ECT stuff is built into the ECU.
    Can anyone confirm??

Also what is this? It has no markings or part number, and seems to have too many wires for ECT.

    Thanks.
