I think the shape makes it hard to fit anything else there without doing some modifications to the guard. If you have no issue with modifiing the guard then, as you know, anything will fit.
Hi,
Has anybody found a set of guard indicators for an RA40 that fit without too much trouble and are a bit easier on the eye. I've broken one of my old ones and i'm looking for an upgrade. Thanks.

I know that for the ra28 with a little bit of filing, a vs commie indicator will fit and looks heaps better.
I think a mate of mine might have used a magna one on his 23, but I think the 23 and 28 guards around the indicator are very different. I'll try and find out and some photos.
I used both VT and magna indicators on mine, and it requires only minor modifications to the indicator holes.. However, are we talking about the indicators that are inthe same spot on the ra40? Or are they they corner ones on the ra40?
i just had a look ot the ra28 side indicators and noticed the metal isn't pressed around the indicator.
On the RA40 it is so if you removed the indicator (to install another indicator) then you would first need to look at trying to 'fill' the indent in first.
I suppose you could use bog but it looks like you would need a fair bit and my experience extends to using it just to skim over the top of panel work not to fill a 3mm indent of about 2.5cm x 12cm. you could cut and weld a new panel over the top but now we are talking about a fair bit of work to change the indicators on them
I had a thought that you could go to a plastics place and get some of that diffuser plastic that usually cover's fluros in offices. then cut the plastic to shape and glue it over the top.. (obviously remove the orange crappy fogged plastic first). That way the shape stays the same but you have changed it to clear style lens.. also you would have got rid of the screw holes (unless that is how you change the bulb)
keep us posted on how you resolve this...
I was talking to Mitch form teh CCG yesterday and he saw a RA40 at the toymods dynoday that had a pair of flush fitting indicators on it. Hes trying to find pictures of it now. I'm going to have a look at a set of sv21 indicators, if they fit i'll try and find them in clear lenses.
I tried the indicator off an sv21 today and I rekcon that they fit pretty well and certainly improve the look of the front end. Looking at the size of the old toyota ones, i'm reckoning on getting about 10 kph on the top end as well. To fit them you need to file out the guard holes to 83 mm, the sv 21 ones even have the same connections as the ra40's so you just plug them straight in.
what about the indent into the metal? is that still an issue (i don't have an idea on what an sv21 looks like but i will google it now...) or is the indicator large enough to cover the indent like the original ra40 indicator?
Its a bit smaller then the 40 but its the same shape so it doesnt look out of place, when I pick up a set form the wrecker then i'll post a picture of it, i'd like to get them in clear though.

They didnt turn out bad at all, I reckon that you'll never find an indicator that fits perfectly because of the shape. These are a heap better then the faded old ones that I had. The original ones cost 50 bucks a lense as well new.
not bad...might have a look on the weekend.
the frosted orange ones don't look crash hot i agreee
I've been looking for lower profile side indicators, those camry lights look pretty good
thanks for the tip![]()
does anyone here work at holden?
I noticed today that the late model caprice and statesman have a reasonably wide rectangular style side indicator light that might fit into the depressed bit of the ra40 guards.
AND THEY ARE CLEAR
a quick measure of some shelf stock would confirm if they are still too small however, or even better a donation for the cause?![]()
