    Hey Matt,

Tristan here, Simon's brother. Matt Trapani mentioned that you got yours rebuilt- Who did you end up getting to do it, and what did it cost? Just a quick note for those rebuilding steering boxes- I embarked on rebuilding one on my ownsome, then found that some bearings I needed are NLA... Be careful if you end up taking bearings out!
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished .

Is that no longer available at toyota or at a bearing wholesaler?

I'm sure that if you walk into a bearing place with the bearing that you need they would be able to match one up for you. Worst case scenario being that you mightn't be able to get an exact match then you may need to get the steering box machined down to accomodate a larger bearing.

Yeah, LeeRoy, NLA anywhere. You're right about the machining though- taking the bore to 35mm ID means that an off the shelf bearing fits- Just gotta find someone willing to do it for a reasonable price (or I could ask the machining lab at uni really nicely). The original is 34mm ID.

Interesting thing is, though- I have a celica/carina chassis manual which shows the sector shaft as running on bushings rather than needle bearings... Also the box from my car is 5 turns lock to lock, and my spare, apparently originally from an RA23 is 4 turns lock to lock. I also suspect my spare runs on bushings, as suggested by the manual... Did RA40's have the same steering box with a different worm gear, by chance?
