Sooo... you want an oldish Toyota that came from the factory with a 4cyl 2.4L all-alloy engine?
Off the top of my head, i dont think there was one.
Hello peoples, Advice please. I am planning to build a serious Improved production race car. Toyota of some type power will be from a 4 cyl.2.4 ltr. all alloy twin cam turbo engine W58 and torsen "F" disc.rear end. Will be 300 hp. at the rear wheels. Light weight MOST important next body stiffness [must have a roll cage ] must have had original 4 cyl. inline engine Therefore What do members suggest????? Corrola??? celica ??? corona??? [don't think so but??] at the moment money no object. What do I build.? crownman 0412 711 481. Steve for all crown parts.

I think he wants an old toyota that had a factory 4-cyl... which is most of them
You want something light... KE30? TA22? KE10?
Want to win IPRA? build a RX7,
Mate do research into the oddities of IPRA rules you can get great advantages by making the right choices on production dates and things
RA65. 2.4L. F series diff. W58 gearbox.
What more could you want? Except twincam and an alloy block
If money is no object then 300hp is achievable with turbo.
I think he wants to sell Crown parts.
Find the lightest chassis you can fit the engine into without having to modify the firewall/bonnet for clearance. I would say the KE30 2door, as you have good suspension and brake options, and also have the weight advantage.

whats wrong with you crown racer?
easily the most awsum car i have seen race at anytrack!
id say go for a early corolla, due to the weight, ie ke10, or ke15 sprinter,
with massive flares, and huge track...
blake
personally id swing for an ae71 or similar as they had a good suspension design factory and panels are cheap. not quite as light as the early rolla's but id say they would be stiffer and easy to pull wieght out of.
the rx7's dont have any advantages anymore and are starting to get beaten by a few other cars.
its more of a personal preference thing but any early small rwd would do the job.
cheers

the lightest RWD with rack and pinion and coil sprung rear end that you cant get in australia but would be totally awesome is the KP61 starlet

It doesn't have to be a 2.4lt as some ppl seem to be interpreting.
You have to keep the same configuration as the original engine (inline 4cyl, V8, etc) and from the same manufacturer.
Hence why you should get the lightest RWD toyota 4-cyl you can find. KE10/15 etc would be good, but such a shame to cut up and get part for (the few original parts u use anyways).
personally i'd use a KE70 (easy to get, cheap, light) or an RT142 (IRS, more modern suspension geometry) and the highest capacity 4 cyl engine
Flares are possible, so use 'em, unfortunately composite panels aren't.
Weight reduction will be your friend!

edit: remember if you go turbo you will be up against workshop sponsered RX7's who spend 50k on a straight cut dogbox. This is not a class for a weekend warrior![]()
I wouldn't use an irs corona do to the simple fact that the IRS design is shit house due to the massive amounts of rear camber it generates when lowered. Sure you can mod cross members but under load its still going to squat. Plus with the springs sitting inboard it makes it harder to calculate and choose desired spring rates.![]()
My221racing on here has had great success with the live rear rona he bought a while back.
If in doubt power out
that last time out at the creek got pwned by a (homebuilt) turbo starlet. (and from memory the same car did the same lap times as rx7s in N/A form)Originally Posted by timbosaurus
