I prefer top mount due to the unfortunate factory location of the oil filter, but if you convert to a remote filter then low mount is a possibility.
Hey guys i am in the process of converting my 4agze to turbo , i have purchased my t25g which will be going on the car , but now i am thinking which way i should go with the turbo manifold , high or low mount keep in mind i will be upgrading to a gt28rs later down the track.
Which way did you guys find easy to do and more practical , low mount takes up more room while top mount look like shit with a small turbo but makes heaps of room
Also pics of setups would be appreciated

I went top mount using the HKS cast manifold and a GT28RS turbocharger.....looks tuff!!

FWIW : A low mount can be made to look tuff too, when done right![]()

Either way you do it, if you are going to mount it far out from the head like the one in the picture you'll definitely want to go about adding some bracing to it to stop it cracking.

From my experiences its best to have a top mount. To keep it away from oil cooler and starter motor. I had a few problems on the track drifting with low mount. Not fun.
well this was a very first turbo manifold i had and still using it today.
except the turbo is a little bigger now.
hehe the blue covers didnt last too long...

when does the car start taking off/ making boost? 2-2500rpm?
who said you couldnt make a ae86 rear quarter outa bog, fibreglass and expanding foam!!
GT28RS bolts straight onto HKS manifold as it's T25 turbine bolt pattern, I've got the .63 A/R turbine housing, it's actually on a 20v with billet chromoly rods and forged pistons, custom cast alloy plenum onto quads etc.
I run a low mount as the turbo I run is quite large and heavy and I wanted the weight as low as possible.

every manifold i have made has been a top mount ,it just makes it easier to get at everything, the oil drain is just a bit harder to route but powerwise i don,t reckon it makes any difference. cheers bigwad
