The JZA70 came with a torsen LSD standard. But the way to confirm is to look at your build plate inside the engine bay. If the axle code ends with a 9, you have a torsen.
My car is up on the stands at the mo getting a service.92 jza70 blmvz
Is there any way of being able to tell if the the diff is a Torsen or weather its just the stock diff?
I have been told by previous owner that it is, and then told by some one that the model that i have got did not come with one standard. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Cheers. Tim

Code is r154 g294. so no torsen for me. unless it has been changed. Right

could have been changed, but more likely its still got the 4pinion clutch type LSD in there (code G_ _4).
i have had a G series 4pinion clutch type LSD beside a G series torsen type LSD and the clutch type requires a decent amount of effort to turn the axles against each other. but the torsen spins freely like a open centre
hello
Easy way to tell: Select a nice, open peice of bitumen. Select 1st gear. Dial up 5000+ RPM, wheel turned to full lock. Sidestep clutch. If it goes halfway around then tries to push straight, you've got a torsen. If it just pushes straight, you've got an open diff. If the car dissapears into clouds of smoke and spins around its axis, you've got an aftermarket LSD.
Worked for me

If I've got on full lock, the car would be quite happy to disappear into clouds of smoke, and I have a Torsen...

Actually the 4 means 4-pinion open centre... no LSD at all. I'm surprised a JZA70 came out like this - is it an actual JZA70 though, or another model with a 1JZ conversion?Originally Posted by brett_celicacoupe

well the code indicates it came with an R154 which means it had to be at least an MA70 w 7MGTE and most of them came with LSD...
but yes it is quite odd...

I had a 7mgte/auto ma70 with an open diff stock. Was sure all turbo versions had the LSD.

Are you sure that 4 isn't another 9? Which would make sense if a real jza70.Originally Posted by jzed ay

toyota use 2,3,4,5 for diff codes...
2 = 2 pinion open
3= 2 piniion lsd
4= 4 pinnion open
5= 4 pinion lsd.
the exception is FWD which at some point used letters.
a= open
c= lsd
Correct but incomplete; they also use 9 for torsen centres.
This only applies up to the 80's though, from the early 90's they switched to a completely new coding system.
