If you have the correct length spring for your rate, travel and desired ride height, then you don't need helper springs (i.e., if your springs aren't captive at full droop, you need longer springs.)

I guess there are cases where this might not be possible, like if your ideal length was between off-the-shelf sizes.

if you run standard length shocks and want a spring rate higher then factory then the car will sit higher in static position. if you try and lower the car by adjusting the lower spring seat then your immediately going to make the spring uncaptive at full droop.

you could get shorter stroke shocks but then your limited to lowering it by the difference in stroke length.

I disagree, this is wrong. A spring rate higher than factory in in the same free length will give a higher static position, sure - but who does this??? You take the new rate, calulate the static length according to the corner weight of your car for various free lengths, then buy springs of the appropriate lenght.

I also disagree that lowering the car in such a situation necessesarily makes the springs uncaptive, as this again depends on the free length verus the static length and the corner weight.

what if the distance between the spring hats is 200mm (open shock length) and you want to lower the car by 50mm (static)with a spring rate of 20kg/mm (hypothetical) with a corner weight of 200kg. static spring compression is going to be 10mm (200/20 = 10) so your open spring length would want to be 160mm. you could probably get away with 10mm free play of the spring at full droop at but 40mm will make them uncaptive in my opinion.

    prices yet......
im allergic to waking up early so i might ring them late tonight

    Have you tried Noltec?

Thats where I bought mine from. About 2-3 years ago though, so dont ask me what the price was. (bought these pink helper springs and the ring that seats between them and the main spring.) If you get some more I might be in for a set for the other car.

PS, I had no choice in the colour LOL

I'm not going to keep cluttering up this thread, just wanted to point out that your previous generalisation was false and misleading to others. The above example may or may not be the case (I won't even go into bump and rebound travel here), but the example is an unfair one - who has a 800kg car with 20kg springs?

    okay,

i just rang them and the girl will be emailing me the freight quote by the end of their business day (hopefully).

i inquired on the inside diameter of the spring and i was advised it is infact 2.550" rather then 2.5". free spring length is 100mm

    2.55 inch = 64.77 millimeters

i just measured my upper spring seat and it is exactly 65.0mm diameter so it would need to be machined down to suit these springs. ~0.3mm is nothing so i can live with that.

the 'stacked spring dividers' as they like to call them are $28 US each so i think they can be sourced locally for cheaper.

the freight quote was for 15pairs (or 30 pieces)

    BTW:

im having doubts as to whether the price is for the pair, sorry i forgot to ask this.

my initial thought of 19.95/pair came from the catalogue listing Helper Springs with a price of 19.95 adjacent.

i guess ill find out in the email
