Check for loose earths from/to the motor? So much can be solved with motors not starting by checking for loose earths.![]()

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
Joey, what type of dizzy do you have?

- Reluctor / Stator (elec)

It's a mech dizzy.Originally Posted by w810sc

Put a cable from the +ve terminal from the battery onto the negative part of the coil, tried to start it but no success. There is power running to the positive side of the resistor when turned to ignition. About to try opening and closing the points manually to see if it makes a spark.
Any other ideas as to what else i should test?
Coil and resistore is looking like this atm:
Should there be any leads running from the negative side of the coil besides the one from my dead switch (red a white wire)?
Thanks for the help, Joey

on the -ve of the coil should be dizzy wire (connects to mech points/radio supressor cap) and tacho wire.Originally Posted by joey
have your car on reds, and open the points with a flat head screw driver, see if there is a spark and if the points are pitted/corroded.

Grrrr thats very annoying since there aint any wiring coming out of the dizzy besides what looks like a grounding which follows into a major piece of the wiring harness and is followed through the front of the engine bay. Nor is there any tacho wire to speak of which may explain why my tacho has never worked correctly in the first placeOriginally Posted by w810sc
Any idea of the colour wire it should be?
Im getting ever so close to just taking it to an auto eleccy![]()

Just had a quick look through one the haynes manual and what i thought liked like an grounding wire is indeed the dizzy wire which is going through the front of the car somewhere for god knows what reason. Also checked the points, no spark, they look a little bit corroded but shouldnt be enough to cause it not to create spark.

Ok problem fixedAlthough its not exactly back to the way it used to be im happy that it runs. The kill switch was at its tricks again and for some reason was giving the dizzy no power, so i cut out the kill switch wire and added a new wire which goes from the negative side of the coil onto the previous connection which runs into a loom. Now to dismantle the kill switch and see ehat was messing up!
Thanks for all ur help guys, i've learnt a fair bit, plus rep for all of you that i can!
