ZOMG one would think that would be uber lag city!?!
Would want to be one maximum effort 1jz!
Heck one CT26 would be laggy on a 1jz!

Hi all, I've got a twin ct26 kit for a 1jz with the turbos both in need of a rebuild. Standard rebuild is around $650 a piece. I realise this set up will be quite laggy on a 2.5 litre motor. I was wondering if I should just get a standard rebuild and boost it or would it be worth it to hi-flow or get a upgraded core. Cheers

If they're CT26's from a 3S it might not be too terrible, but it would still be very laggy - not only do you have 2.5L of engine trying to spool up 4.0L of turbo, the CT26 is also old technology and doesn't perform anywhere near as well as modern BB turbos.
If you really want to do the twin turbo thing, throw the worn-out CT26's in the bin and acquire a couple of modern, appropriately sized turbos instead.

Already got the kit. Picked up the entire kit from air filters to dumps with all lines and manifolds very cheap. Was running off a soarer that reportedly made good boost around 4000 rpm. Was just wondering would there be a point in doing anything other than a basic rebuild on the turbos.
i certainly wouldnt be making them any bigger with a hi-flow

Yep as soon as I head CT26 I think of the 7mgte version
The 3S version would be a lot better, tho my understanding of them is pretty well the same as norbie, older tech and quite a bit off the pace of newer turbos...

this sounds very interesting, love to see a few photo's of it when it's together.
Since a 3S CT26 is good for about 170RWkW, and a Supra CT26 is good for a little more, I'd say there's no need for an upgrade above and beyond the stock specifications. If they're 3S CT26's then lets not forget how small the exhaust housing is on them.

Here is a pic when they were on the previous car. Once they arrive, I guess I'll have a chat to GCG or another turbo rebuilder on what they reckon. It was driven on an auto soarer and started making boost around 2500 but came on hard at 4000.
any idea on the power figures he was making from them?
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are
If its going to cost you 1300$ to rebuild them, why wouldnt you purchase a new turbo all together?
You could get a good cond gt3540 for not far off that. Would need manifold, dump etc. But you'd make full boost around 4k and it'd be good for around 350rwkw depending on suporting mods...

that shit is wack yo!
for the $$$ buy yourself a newer generation of turbo. spool will be better and the turbos arent 20 years old!

If the ct26 is that bad, what about adaptor plates that allow you to run T3 turbos on a CT26 manifold? They seem cheap on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CT20-CT26-TO-...QQcmdZViewItem I got this kit for almost nothing, so I wouldn't mind finding some use for it.
hope you like spending time with your diegrinder.
check the step behind the flange i bet its huge.
cheers
