    Default Aftermarket 2-Way/1.5Way LSD...Advice Needed

    Hey guys,

    As some of you know,
I am setting up my GZ20 soarer for some track work.

I have just fitted a brand new Cusco 2-Way LSD centre into it.
While it is uber harsh on the street, I can tell that it is going to be animalistic
    on the track!

Anyways, what I need to know off you guys is...
I used the original housing (MA70 style) and the original crown and pinion gear.
Do I need to "wear in" the LSD centre itself?? Everyone is saying I have
to do " slow figure 8s" for around 50-100kms!!! This would take DAYS to do!!
and would rattle the car to death LOL. But I guess if that's what it takes...

What do you reccomend I do guys?

I have also heard that dropping the oil after a short period is better on the first run.
What oil would be best for a Cusco 2-way LSD??
Does anyone know if there are any Cusco dealers in Australia yet?

Thanks guys, I am going in another track day really soon, so any advice you can
give me would be most appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Bart

i did some slow figure 8's with my 2 lsd's (mx83), just to work the clutchpacks a bit and get oil through then, and just 'get things moving'. first one was just a stock grande jobbie, so it was sorta pointless - that was more ZOMG LSD LETS BREAK IT IN!!!! over the old single spinner. (although, it didn't have oil in it when i bought it, so there was maybe some merit in that)

a TRD2way with 4.1 gears out of a chaser popped up, so i bought the whole chaser cradle (incl brakes, fancy diff, different looking axles, and non-rooted diff mounts) and had the whole lot swapped in.

initially it drove like a locker, but then after a few mins of slow figure 8's in a reasonable sized cul-de-sac it seemed to settle down a bit. Now it's pretty sedate if you're just idling along slowly while turning (auto w/ 3krpm stallie) but if you accelerate even just a little bit the inside wheel skips.

give it a bit more and it does rear-steppy-outy-things very easily!

can't really speak in regards to a brand spankers one, but i'd presume dropping (even just to inspect) the oil after a short interval wouldn't hurt, since when it's 'breaking in' i'd expect material would find it's way into the oil

edit: did you end up getting rid of your cressida shell by that saturday?

Bart you have already flogged it on the street...the best thing you can do now is drop the oil and refill with new stuff and hope it lasts...

you should have seriously run the centre in first though...

But the instructions are all in Japanese bro!!
    Seriously I no understanddeee?

So you gotta drive in slow figure 8s for hours and hours on end?
This seems a little excessive. Where could you legally od figure 8s for hours on end?
Cops would turn up for sure with the amount of chirping and shit that comes out the
    back end LOL.

It works now just like it did when I first got it, so I can't say yay or nay at this stage.
I'll drop the oil soon and have a look in there. in the meantime, I'll try and find an aisian
    bloke who can read Japanese.

I dont mean highway driving matt..i mean general driving, like going around a lot of corners and so forth..no one is gona find the time to do figure 8's for hours on end.. i know its wat u should do..but if u take it easy just do general drving. go to a col-de-sac and do some figure 8's and just let it wear in before u start doing 3rd gear skandos under the bridge at oran

It'll be single spinning by Christmas.

Just jokes , surely the run in procedure being described is excessively exaggerated? Has someone got English instructions?? 3 hours of figure 8's and my front tyres would be rooted.

I'd imagine KAAZ has a similar break-in and this is all they require:

Go to the nearest parking lot and drive in a figure eight pattern. In the straight part of the 8, slowly accelerate to 20km/hr. Once you reach the end of the straight go into neutral with clutch released. Make the smallest turns with the maximum steering angle. Once you get back to the straight , slowly accelerate again to 20km/hr and keep repeating for a period of 30 minutes.

Once that is done, go back to your house and change the fluid again.

This is the exact break in procedure that kaaz recommends in the manual.

I remember I had read the break-in info when I deciding on what to do with my diff and I thought it wasn't as bad as being described.
