    Default fuel system - legalities

ok this is the current setup that came out of my blue 23, its simple and very easy to re-install into another car i.e the white 23

I believe this setup is not legal? correct me if im wrong . . . im pretty sure an engineer will not pass this. Im hoping to build the white 23 as legal as possible. Now Blake (IN 05 NT) has told me that if i build a sealed box, wooden maybe? and have a vent exiting the bottom of the car that it may be legal? Can anyone confirm this? I would prefer the easiest option and not get under the car and find somewhere to mount it cutting and making up brackets n stuff, it doesnt seem like there is much room under there and after all the fuel tank is located in the boot so why no the pumps aswell?

It just needs to be sealed from the cabin.

So weld up the divider from cabin to boot!

it wont pass the current rules no but many moons ago it would have.

sealing the boot off is a good idea but it means the pillars must be sealed also which will take a shiteload of work and no speaker cutouts in the parcel tray.

or run it all under the car and be done with it.

BTW that fuel feed to the 044 looks way too small it needs to be 1/2" minimum but 5/8" prefered

Ive also heard that the fuel pumps have to be a certain distance away from the tank or does that only apply when the tank is under the car?

I've never heard that one, and I don't see it as being that true, seeing how most factory cars are intank... Unless it's specific to running surge tanks, but you're the first I've heard it from.

i think the main problems you would have is the rubber hose and the fuel pump in the boot. so if you just mounted it under the car, with braided hose, i think it would be legal.

There seems to be a lot of hearsay and misinformation in this thread - I have no idea what the legalities are, but noone seems to be able to agree on what it should be.

I would suggest that if anyone is seriously concerned with the legality of their current fuel system or intended modifications, that they talk to either an engineer or the Vehicle Standars section of their local Transport department.

This has been covered, and there have been a few instances of people getting a legal system in their boot. It always involved a box which was sealed from the boot and vented to the outside. I also believe they ran hardlines as much as possible.

Oh, and Linden is right, the feed to your HPP is too small... this should be as big as possible, and the bottom of the surge tank ideally should be above the inlet of the HPP to help gravity feed the sucker (well... blower anyways, we all know they dont suck ).

    Jordan,

    Just a quick question

Is the tank and pump mounted to the plastic jack space cover?

    Regards
